With only a few weeks left until the launch of the Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker expansion, many of the MMORPG's fans are likely filled with anticipation for the release of one of the game's biggest batches of content. Not only is the expansion a culmination of FF14's current storyline, it also brings new playable classes into the title. However, an announcement was recently made by Final Fantasy 14's producer and director Naoki Yoshida, stating that the expansion's release date has been moved to December.

Since its announcement early this 2021, Endwalker has been talked about a lot online by both Square Enix and the MMORPG's fanbase. The development team provides constant updates to its community, and even shares in-depth details of new Endwalker areas, changes in current jobs that players should expect, and, of course, details about the new classes that are being added into the game. What's more, the fans themselves create their own content, seemingly as a way to show their excitement about the expansion.

The news about the delay of Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker's release came alongside a recent scheduled livestream with the game's director. Yoshida first apologized about the delay then went into detail about the announcement in a blog post in the game's official website. According to Yoshida, Endwalker will officially be launched on December 7, 2021 instead of its original release date of November 23, 2021. The Early Access date has also been moved to December 3, 2021, while Patch 6.01 and Patch 6.05 will be released on December 21, 2021, and January 4, 2022, respectively.

In the official blog post, Yoshida explained the main reasons for Endwalker's delay. He mentioned that it was the team's decision to push the release date to two weeks later so that they could further fine tune the details, and assure players of the game's quality. Given that the Final Fantasy 14 storyline spans 11 years, and hopes to continue for far longer, it is understandable for the devs to feel pressure to deliver a high-quality product that their audience has already come to expect. At the end of the letter, Yoshida seems confident that they were able to successfully tell the story of Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker.

Though there is not much fans can do about the expansion's delay, there is still a lot of pre-expansion content in Final Fantasy 14 for them to complete before Endwalker arrives. Hopefully that is enough to tide them over until the expansion's launch in December.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now on PC, PS4, and PS5. The Endwalker expansion launches on December 7.
