When Square Enix registered a domain for Final Fantasy XIII-3 most wrote it off as a pre-emptive measure, not necessarily a guarantee. After disappointing fans with the true Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix wanted to give that world another go before closing the book on Lightning and her chums, but that was presumed to be it. However, that may not be the case.
Before reading on be warned that spoilers for Final Fantasy XIII-2 are about to follow, but they don’t reveal anything about the content of the ending, only the final moment, which, if it’s true, is extremely disappointing.
According to a review from Game Informer, Final Fantasy XIII-2, after dealing out a few plot resolutions, ends with the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers: a “to be continued” screen. Nothing whatsoever follows those three little words…nothing, not even a post-credits scene.
Now, it can be assumed that, given Square Enix’s big words about bi-monthly DLC, and the rumor that Lightning will get her own story in them, this “to be continued” is only meant to pave the way for said DLC, but according to the GI reviewer that is not the case. I wouldn’t say never, but also I’ve yet to get my hands on the game.
So, while Final Fantasy XIII-2 is Square Enix’s chance for redemption, it’s also apparently the second game in what may become a trilogy. It really makes you wonder if, at this rate, we will every see any of those other Final Fantasy XIII offshoots, or another true Final Fantasy for that matter.
To end a game on a cliffhanger is one thing, but to do so in a game that no one was expecting, and whose predecessor, the one that the sequel is actually continuing the story of, resolved the game’s events nicely is a bold move to say the least. But, if Square Enix has cleaned up many of the problems gamers had with FF XIII, then maybe, just maybe, this particular “series” is worth seeing continue.

i loved final fantasy 13. the storyline and gameplay. my only issue was how small and limited the world was. so to say they’ve lost it and are now just a punchline is the same as being a tight a§§ed critic. so let’s just see what they bring us and welcome it with open arms.
I think that Final Fantasy 13 should end with Final Fantasy 13 2 because I wanna see another Final Fantasy. If it ends with a cliffhanger I hope they end it well with the DLC.

Final Fantasy versus 13 should even be called Final Fantasy. I mean seriously, no turn base at all like every single Final Fantasy. It should be linked towards Kingdom Hearts to be more exact.
Come on… its a given. With the downer ending of XIII-2 there is no doubt in my mind that 3 will follow at the end of this console generation.

I say let the series die. Let there be a XIII-3. Let there be a XIII-200. Square Enix is a far cry from what used to be Squaresoft. Those of us who remember Squaresoft remember whenever they released a game you were usually never afraid to buy it on launch date because they had consistent quality. I am speaking for more than just Final Fantasy titles… Chrono series, Mana series and even oddballs like Threads of Fate. I have grown weary of buying games on launch date in this generation because I have been burned badly. Until Square Enix steps up to the plate and starts putting quality into their games instead of just shiny graphics, I will never again buy one of their products. It’s laughable how many people cry for a Final Fantasy VII remake yet I promise you 100% if they remade it, MANY people would be insanely furious upon it’s release date. It will not be the same, people. It would be a completely different game! Anyone who was coherent in the 90′s that played the game know that what gave it it’s charm could not possibly be recreated by enhancing the graphics. We all know the direction Square Enix has gone. You think they’d keep your precious FFVII the same? Not a chance (unless your idea of a VII remake is Call of Duty: FFVII). Here’s hoping for a Final Fantasy XIII-4!

Just interested how many people wanna see a 13 3? I understand with the disappointing ending it could mean another game but who wants square enix end 13 with 13 2 with just dlc and move on to another game.
there is a post crediy ending and idk why people hate square enix now im sixteen i dont understand i loved all the ff games 13 was one of my favorites i did haty\e the small ness but i understood they were on a run they coudnt stay in one place for long. i liked the ending too 13-2 it was badass i hope they make 13-3 i would buy it.
They probably should have a 13-3 I just feel that the ending was a bit depressing. But on top of that the secret ending is something which I’m pretty sure lots of people want to know what will happen after that I mean it’s too much of cliffhanger since they added the secret ending.
I like how everyone whines that Square has no creativity or imagination anymore but then turn around and say that they’d rather they remade FF VII or made another game just like the previous ones. They’ve done nothing but be creative with every new FF game, they all add something new and unique. Just because you don’t like what they added doesn’t mean it was bad or uncreative. Just let the folks who enjoyed these keep enjoying them and you wait on FF15 or whatever.
I would really love it if SquareEnix made a FFXIII-3. In my opinion FFXIII-2 was a HUGE improvement of FFXIII and it was amazing. How the game ended just blew my mind. Of course you guys know that it ended in “To Be Continued.” Because of that they have to make a new one. It would be pretty insane to do that if SquareEnix wasn’t planning on making a third. Im sure that most of the people who play the game will DEMAND for a third one. Hell, im demanding one right now lol. Its just I would really be upset to see the story just end like that. The storyline really captures you and that makes the game more fantastic.

yeah i guess its a good idea to have another chapter for ff13,what we call it a ff13-3 cause the ending is not fullfill the desire ending we want beside ff13-2 as presentation for the previous game not that much but still one of the best rpg games we wait for it from year to year ,and i seriously love the story pf ff13 in general .but i hope get more action in the next chapter and bring back light to game as a superior character for lead , better than serah.and another thing ,its not good to have multiple ending in long rpg ending ,cause u now not all people can play the same long game for many times especially ff ,and…….. we r waiting for the next installment of ff from now.
In my opinion. Final Fantasy XIII-2 was a MASSIVE improvement on Final Fantasy XIII and the first Final Fantasy I truly enjoyed since Final Fantasy X.

Well fans seem to be demanding 13 3 it’s only a matter of time.
Im really at a loss of words for all the criticism people are giving 13. The story may not be the best FF story but it is definitely an amazing one. Imo the battle system for 13 is the best in any FF ever, of course the other ones weren’t bad either. The only thing people should be complaining about was the linear feel of 13-1, but look they fixed the issue in 13 2. I like where they cut it off. Whats most important is that the game is very entertaining. Please everyone, take a minute to actually look at the quality of the game itself and stop comparing it to older ff titles
I love Final fantasy, yes the older games where better in someways. Still that doesn’t change the fact the new once are bad. I like the story-line they made so far and how the chars they put in there are always a look a like of the older FFX games chars. The graphic went from bad to great, that’s a huge improvement. So far i was sad about the ending of 13-2 but if there will be a DLC or 13-3 i will play it as a FFX fan. Yet you can walk your own path when u want what wasn’t able in FFX13. About the remake of FFX10 i will love it just as much as the old one its only improved with the good stuff of now-days like awesome graphic. I understand why some ppl are negative about FFX13/13-2, but it can happen that you’re taste of story-line or game-play lays different from there field of vision.

I played all final fantasy game and I must say if SquareEnix does not make another sequel for this one ill be pissed… (SPOILER ALERT!) The game ending is really not happy at all ( not that it need to be) But for Serah to just die like that, the world turning to black and BAM To be continued… Seriously I’m pissed I thought if I got all the fragments the ending would change but no, all you get is another small paradox ending with Caius. Final fantasy 13 was a little disapointing but now I really really want to see what happen next, I love the world and the character in it so please SquareEnix finish it

I don’t see what all the rage is about when it comes to ff 13. If you hate the game don’t buy it. It’s that simple. Stop complaining like your the most important person in the world. If even just a couple of people like a game then it’s worth it.
