One of our favorite games of 2012 was Far Cry 3, a game that came out four years after its predecessor. It was met with positive reviews and loads of award nominations, and so when we first heard of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, we weren't surprised. And we didn't even know what it was.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon first appeared on the Brazilian classification ratings board as a downloadable game. And you won't believe what Ubisoft is marketing it as today, on April Fools' Day.

Far Cry 3 lead writer Jeffrey Yohalem mentioned last month that he's working on a new Far Cry experience, something that would address fan demand for more content and the concerns of waiting years before the next Far Cry game. Some thought it was story-based DLC for the Far Cry 3 main campaign, others thought it could be Blood Dragon.

"Yes. I’m working on something now that will be surprising, I think, when it’s announced. But it definitely is a 'strike while the iron's hot' thing, and we’ll see."

Look at the video up top, along with this art below. If Yohalem was referring to working on Blood Dragon, we know what he meant by "strike while the iron's hot.' It's April Fools' Day, and we can't tell what's real and what's not, but this is too good not to be true. Looking back on the success and popularity of Hotline Miami, a retro-styled Far Cry game is something we can get behind.

The terminator music in the teaser is epic, but if you play close attention, there's one frame near the end of the trailer which looks like possible first-person gameplay, with some large sci-fi minigun-esque weapon.

Is this a screenshot of the real Blood Dragon game and does the actual game embrace this retro-future style? Here's the "story" of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon according to the official site:

The year is 2007. It is the future. Earth has been ravaged by a nuclear war and new paths for peace must be found. A U.S. cyborg army may have found a solution: a powerful bioweapon on a distant island. A Mark IV Cyber Commando, Sergeant Rex Power Colt has been sent over to gather information and figure out what the hell is going on.

You'll definitely want to check out the official website, where readers can punch in the classic Konami cheat code with the arrow keys (Up, up, down, down, left, right, left right, B, A)  to turn the site into an image shooter.

Where the game was first uncovered thanks to Brazil, we have more information thanks to Australia, specifically, the Australian Ratings Classification Board. They've rated Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon 18+ for a "high impact sex scene." While we can't confirm which parts of today's craziness related to Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon are real, we can confirm that it is a real downloadable game... and we think it might just be as insane as it's positioned to be. And that's a good thing.
