The new Fantastic Beasts 3 trailer sends our protagonists back to Hogwarts, which is sure to spark the nostalgia of audiences acquainted with the original wizarding world of Harry Potter. A veteran within the Harry Potter franchise, David Yates is returning to direct Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, hoping to recapture the essence of the magic that many have come to adore. The beloved Hogwarts castle is shown beneath a clouded sky from the opening moments of the Fantastic Beasts 3 trailer, accompanied by the whizzing golden snitch fluttering rapidly through the air. These pieces are intimate and provide a hint for audiences that Yates may be returning this film to the roots of the franchise. The montage of exciting moments that follow showcases some astounding magical techniques that relate to previous films while presenting something original for newcomers to the genre.

In addition, the Fantastic Beasts 3 trailer gives audiences insight into the foundational structure of the plot, which focuses on Dumbledore creating an early version of what many may perceive to be the Order of the Phoenix, also known as Dumbledore's Army, to combat Grindelwald and his aggressive push for power. Conflict, however, was acknowledged in the previous film, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and indicated that Dumbledore and Grindelwald made a pact in their youths never to duel one another. This complication throws an obstacle in the way of subduing his madness, which is why the arrival of Newt Scamander, played by Eddie Redmayne, and others to assist Dumbledore is so vitally important in putting a stop to the spreading darkness.

As previously mentioned, other exciting pieces return to add some familiarity to a brand new adventure. Being back inside the castle walls unearths an abundant amount of memories for some, along with the Room of Requirements, which played a considerable role within the later Harry Potter films. These recognizable pieces make room for the assumption that even more relics of the past will make a much-welcomed appearance. In addition, audiences are given more glimpses of Mikkelsen as Grindelwald, whose attire and persona seem to differ significantly from the characteristics associated with Depp's version. Mikkelsen's take on Grindelwald appears to embody a darker tone, as evident through his magic usage, which is equally terrifying and intriguing.

This new addition to the Fantastic Beast franchise brings back the familiar faces of Redmayne, Jude Law, Ezra Miller, Katherine Waterston, and Don Fogler to the world of magic. Based on the brief pieces of footage provided, audiences can look forward to a nostalgic Harry Potter adventure filled with new beasts and depth into the complicated relationship between Dumbledore and Grindelwald. Ezra Miller's role seems to carry an incredible amount of intrigue as well, as things come to a tipping point between his character and Dumbledore through a series of magical clashes. There is a lot to be desired from this film as things seemingly come full circle within the plot, but hopefully, fans will experience a skillful balancing act between the old and the new.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will release in theaters on April 15, 2022.
