One fan of Fallout 4 has created a complete flowchart of the entire Fallout 4 quest tree to keep track of which quests makes certain factions hostile.

The questline for Fallout 4 is the story of a parent trying to find their lost child, and invariably getting caught up in a struggle for control over the Boston Commonwealth in the process. There's plenty to to talk about in the realm of Fallout 4, and with the vast number of sidequests, explorable locations, and settlements to build, it's easy to become distracted from the main plot. Once players close in on tying the proverbial knot in the main quest line, however, they may find themselves in the awkward position where they've aligned themselves with each of the main factions, and are forced to make a choice between them.

As most gamers are probably aware of by now, the aforementioned plot of Fallout 4 pits the player between three main warring factions: The Railroad, The Institute, and The Brotherhood. Picking sides is a matter of moral choice (read our guide on this here), but it can be surprisingly easy to start a quest for one faction only to immediately realize doing so has made the player an enemy of another group. Thus, a fan of the game created a flowchart, so that players could see the saintliness, and which missions mean a changing allegiances for the player.

The image was made by a Redditor named Th3Element05, who wanted to help gamers avoid accidentally upsetting one of the three rival factions as players neared the end of the game. Interested gamers can take a look at the mission tree below, and can view the full version by giving the image a click:

It's easy to see how things can quickly become convoluted, but Th3Element05 has done a great job making the flowchart easy to read. Notably, the Minutemen - who are a non-integral faction with a tendency to always send the player bouncing around settlements - are the only faction that can never become permanently hostile against the player. They also can't be destroyed, which makes sense considering making Sanctuary a stronghold for the Minutemen is an automatically triggered quest for the player, even if the player doesn't make it a happy place to be.

For the sake of science, someone asked if it was possible to finish the game with no faction obtaining control of Boston. Another user tested if this was possible by finishing the game with The Railroad, and then attempting to eliminate them entirely. As it turns out, at some point after siding with The Railroad and continuing their missions, those characters become flagged as essential, meaning the player can no longer kill them.

It looks like Boston was destined to fall under the control of one faction all along, regardless of how complicated the mission tree ended up being.

Fallout 4 is currently available for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
