The CW's World Dog Awards nominates Dogmeat from Fallout 4, Chop from Grand Theft Auto 5, and D-Dog from Metal Gear Solid 5 for Top Video Game Dog of 2015.

Even though 2015 is now well behind us, many are still looking back at the previous year and handing out awards for the best in their respective categories. There are movie award shows, video game award shows, TV award shows, music award shows, and this year, there's even an awards show for dogs in the form of The World Dog Awards. And gamers may be interested to know that one of the categories for The World Dog Awards is Top Video Game Dog of 2015.

There are four virtual dogs nominated for the award. This includes Dogmeat from Fallout 4, D-Dog from Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, Chop from Grand Theft Auto 5 (despite the fact that GTA 5 released in 2013, and the new-gen version of GTA 5 released in 2014), and a dog from Barbie and Her Sisters: Puppy Rescue.

The CW, which will host The World Dog Awards next week on January 14th, is allowing viewers to vote on the various categories, which includes Top Video Game Dog. It seems likely that if the actual gaming community bothers voting, that Dogmeat from Fallout 4 will take home the top prize. Dogmeat is more timely than Chop, and Fallout 4 is arguably more popular than Metal Gear Solid 5, meaning more people are aware of Dogmeat than D-Dog in general. As for Barbie and Her Sisters: Puppy Rescue, well, unless there's an influx of joke votes, it doesn't seem to stand a chance against the likes of the aforementioned games.

To make the case for Dogmeat, he is perhaps the most memorable out of the dogs nominated for the category, and the most useful. He is one of the most popular Fallout 4 companions for a reason, as he has many practical uses, such as engaging enemies in battle, finding items, and in some cases allowing players to glitch the game and obtain powerful weapons like the Cryolator much earlier than the developers intended. Another perk of Dogmeat is that he can't die, which makes him one formidable pooch in the wasteland.

Admittedly, Dogmeat has his flaws as well. Sometimes he winds up stuck on rooftops, and other times, Dogmeat can even get players killed. But even so, his usefulness seems to outweigh his (potentially deadly) flaws, and it seems like Dogmeat has this victory in the bag, barring an upset from Chop, D-Dog, or Random Dog from Barbie and Her Sisters.

The extraordinarily prestigious World Dog Awards, hosted by comedian George Lopez, will take place on January 17th at 8pm Eastern on The CW. In the meantime, anyone that wants to vote for Top Video Game Dog and the various other dog award categories can visit The CW's World Dog Awards page to do so.

Fallout 4 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
