There are many mysterious Vaults located around Fallout titles and that's no different in Fallout 4 which has the players first emerging from Vault 111 to the post-apocalyptic Boston commonwealth. Looking for shortcuts, one Fallout 4 player has discovered a unique way to cut through some dangerous hallways with Mole Rats in Vault 81.

Reddit user Ix_Mcgeady_xI recently posted a clip from their exploration of Vault 81 in Fallout 4 in which they show off a unique trick they discovered to cut through some side content to get straight to a key quest location. Like many other Fallout 4 tricks, this one involves using a trash can as a step stool to access hidden areas that Bethesda Softworks may not have intended for. NPCs watch on as the player goes through the corner of Vault 81 to save some time, effort, and healing items.

Ix_Mcgeady_xI's clip begins with the player facing the floor in a corner near the elevator in Vault 81 that leads to the main part of the vault. The player is standing on a trashcan and uses it to rise upward past some piping with the makeshift floating platform to clip through the ceiling and see the empty spaces between areas of the vault to quickly gain access to a door related to the Hole in the Wall quest. Using this trash can technique allows Ix_Mcgeady_xI to move past some Mole Rats and a Mole Rat Brood Mother that each poses increased risk with their Mole Rat Disease.

Vault 81 is located to the East of Forest Grove Marsh and to the North of Westing Estate, and it offers multiple activities for Fallout 4 players to do. This technique not only saves players time traversing Vault 81 but also gives them a glimpse into the inner workings of map design that may have inspired some Fallout 76 environments. Although several other players use the trashcans littered around the environment to block enemy attacks like ones from Mole Rats, Ix_Mcgeady_xI chose to just skip past the infested hallways by glitching through the environment.

There are many long stretches of Fallout 4 that some players are always looking to find ways around and Ix_Mcgeady_xI's trick will help those players with their speedruns. It's currently unclear just how many areas of the game can be glitched through without any mods or console commands, but Ix_Mcgeady_xI's video isn't the first to show players phasing through buildings. Other Fallout 4 players have also pointed out there are other ways to move through the environment such as copious use of VATS or repeatedly saving and loading.

Fallout 4 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
