Splinter Cell: Convection SE USB Drives Defective

Splinter Cell Conviction Bathroom Choke

The title pretty much says it all! If you have decided to pre-order a copy of the special edition of Splinter Cell: Conviction, then you need to know that the “fully loaded” USB drive that comes packaged with the game has a very good likelihood of being defective. This has been confirmed by a Ubisoft rep. However, the rep also stated that because of said epic fail, they will discount $10 from the price of the Special Editions, whether you have a defective drive or not. This is pretty awesome news if your USB drive happens to be one that works.

Ubisoft also plans to post a statement on the official Splinter Cell: Conviction website with instructions for those who do get a faulty drive. They have not indicated if the drive will be replaced or not, but this seems the obvious next step for Ubisoft.

Some people may be upset about this situation, and to those people I say, “really?” At least Ubisoft told you about it, and are giving you $10 off your purchase, as well as most likely replacing your broken drive. This is not a problem.  The RROD? That was a problem! Personally, I say a big, “well done, Ubisoft,” for telling us up front that they messed up. I look forward to playing the game tomorrow, and of course I pre-ordered the Special Edition (so I may be a little in denial!).

Splinter Cell: Conviction arrives tomorrow, exclusively for the Xbox 360.
