While E3 2012 has been over for nearly three weeks now, all of the major entities, including us, are just now getting around to unveiling their awards for the best games on display at the show. We here at Game Rant found Halo 4 to be the most exciting game on display, but the group of outlets more commonly known as the Game Critics felt differently, and have today announced their winners.

It was a pretty substantial sweep for Naughty Dog's The Last of Us, which took home Best of Show, Best Original Game, and Best Console Game. The game's demo during Sony's E3 2012 Press Conference did not disappoint, and showcased quite a bit of the tone and tension that Naughty Dog has promised will be present throughout the game.

It obviously wasn't a clean sweep for The Last of Us because it is a PlayStation exclusive, opening up an opportunity for Firaxis' XCOM: Enemy Unknown to take home Best PC Game honors. While Enemy Unknown might have come out of nowhere, its impact on this year's E3 will ensure that gamers will recognize it at launch, much better than the FPS that is in development hell.

Though neither could be commended because they were unplayable on the show floor, the Game Critics did give special mention to Star Wars 1313 and Watch Dogs for their graphics and innovations. If these are indeed next-gen games, and their true unveiling takes place at next year's E3, it's easy to see them running away with all the major awards.

All in all there were some pretty solid choices all around, including nods to Unfinished Swan for Best Downloadable and Obsidian's South Park: The Stick of Truth for Best Role Playing Game. The event might have felt a bit lackluster because of the lack of exciting new consoles or new IPs, but there was still plenty to be excited about for the coming months.

Do you think that The Last of Us was the best game on display during E3 2012? Any of the awards that you disagree with?
