Dune is now in theaters and fans of the star-studded cast are expected to show out for the sci-fi film based on the novel from Frank Herbert. The film is directed by Denis Villeneuve, who is also known for acclaimed movies such as Blade Runner: 2049, Sicario, and Arrival.

Dune is one of the films released this year that will be having a simultaneous release on HBO Max as well as in movie theaters. The film will have a deep cast of many recognizable faces, with Timothee Chalamet starring as the protagonist. Chalamet is also set to star as Willy Wonka in the upcoming new film based on the chocolate factory owner.

Despite being released on both streaming and theaters, Dune is set to do very well based on the reports from Deadline. The film is estimated to make a lot of money globally, with a potential $30-35 million from the domestic box office, which doesn't even include overseas revenue. Globally, the film is on course to do around $70 million, which is nothing to look past. Exhibitors have been indicating that the pre-sale tickets "are squashing everything that’s come before," which includes the recent movie releases of this year (No Time to Die, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, A Quiet Place II, to name a few). Those movies are heavy hitters and have gone on to do very well in terms of reviews and profits. If Dune can beat out movies like these, then this means the film will likely be something unforgettable.

Dune is a relatively new property in the film world, as it's based on a novel that many may not be familiar with. For something like Dune to be new and do well means it would need to rely on star power. The star-studded Dune cast adds a feeling of credibility for fans to either support their favorite actor or trust that these actors wouldn't all sign on to the film unless either the budget or story were worth their time.

Regardless of the reason, Dune is shaping up to be something that many will talk about in the coming months, which will be good for both creators and fans alike. Early screenings have had good things to say, now it's just time to give it to the people and see where the Dune's legacy goes from here after this weekend.

Dune is now playing in theaters and on HBO Max.
