It should come as no surprise that Duke Nukem, the self-proclaimed King of Shooters, would be into celebrating royal ceremonies. With the Royal Wedding fast approaching (not to mention the release of Duke Nukem Forever), a piece of art was commissioned to celebrate the Prince, The Bride, and the Duke himself. While we all know that Duke Nukem is a ridiculous man, you have to admit the painting really is just "something else."

Officially titled "Untitled: I’m So Awesome, I Don’t Even Need To Name It," the picture is supposed to have been made by the Duke himself. In reality, renowned artist Frank Frid was commissioned to craft the piece, which reportedly required over 350 man hours to finish, and yet was completed in a single sitting -- or so the press release would have us believe. Still, it seems to be a piece of art that even the Duke couldn't chew bubblegum at.

As it stands, the original painting will be unveiled to the masses before, but -- for obvious reasons -- not at the actual Royal Wedding, and will then be transported to its future home as the centerpiece for the Duke Nukem Forever launch celebrations. An additional 200 signed prints will be produced, and they will be auctioned off for charity.

The painting is oil-on-board and measures a solid 35" by 23" and was Frid's sole project for the entire duration of its creation. No doubt some Duke fans are lamenting the absence of any of the girls from the Duke Nukem Forever 'Babes' trailer, but such is art.

With Duke Nukem Forever's release date coming up in about a month and a half, and the wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton on the 29th, 2k Games is clearly hoping to generate a bit of an international look from those interested in the wedding. Whether the fans of the game and the fans of the wedding are a shared demographic, however, remains to be seen.

What do you think about the Duke Nukem artwork? Do you think it stands on its own as a piece of art?

Duke Nukem Forever will release on June 10th internationally, and June 14th in North America, for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
