Bethesda releases a new campaign trailer for the DOOM reboot, which shows off some levels from the game while also confirming its May 13th release date.

In the wake of the confirmation of Bethesda's E3 2016 press conference, the company has made another major announcement. One of the biggest games of 2016 now has a release date, as Bethesda has confirmed that the DOOM reboot game will be available on May 13th, with a simultaneous launch across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Bethesda also confirmed that DOOM will be enjoying a Collector's Edition as well as pre-order bonuses. Those that purchase the Collector's Edition can look forward to a 12-inch statue of the Revenant demon in addition to a steelbook case. The CE for DOOM will cost $120.

In the meantime, those that pre-order either the Collector's Edition or the vanilla version of DOOM can look forward to bonus in-game items. This includes the Demon Multiplayer Pack, which gives players a new set of demon armor to wear while battling in DOOM's online multiplayer arenas.

The new trailer doesn't focus on multiplayer or the impressive SnapMap feature, however. Instead it offers players a glimpse into DOOM's single player campaign. Watch the bloodbath ensue in the trailer below:

There isn't a lot in the trailer that wasn't already shown in some form during DOOM's E3 2015 presentation. It reiterates the game's setting, the enemies that players can expect to battle, and some of the weapons that will be available in the campaign. Overall, there's really only two new pieces of information that can be garnered from the trailer besides the game's release date.

For one, it appears as though there may be a light puzzle element when it comes to opening some doors. In the trailer, the DOOM Guy grabs a corpse and slams it eyeball-first onto a retinal scanner to open a door. Whether or not this is a recurring mechanic throughout the campaign is anyone's guess, but if it is, players may have to take some time finding dead bodies to get through certain areas.

The second piece of new information is that it appears as though all enemies will have their own unique methods of killing the player. One of the biggest features that Bethesda has pushed is the various melee executions that can be performed on the demons throughout the campaign, and this trailer shows that the demons may have their own methods as well, with a Cyberdemon stomping on the DOOM Guy and ripping his legs off in a gruesome manner. Prior to this, we've seen the Revenant demon rip DOOM Guy's arms off and beat him to death with them, so it seems reasonable to assume other enemies have their own special kill animations as well.

Fans have been waiting for DOOM for a long time, and it's exciting that the release date is finally in sight. It's also exciting that DOOM's release date is not June 30th, as was previously leaked, meaning Bethesda can talk about something besides DOOM at E3, like The Elder Scrolls 6 for example.

Doom will be available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on May 13th.
