There are a ton of games scheduled to release later this year, but one that's managed to stand out — in part because of the sheer number of recognizable franchises taking part in the venture — is Disney Infinity. The game, which has drawn influence from the "toys to life" philosophy of Activision's immensely popular Skylanders franchise, is hoping to deliver a quality Disney-centric experience when it hits retailers later this August.

As many consumers are well aware, Disney has its hands on a copious amount of big-name properties — the most recently acquired being Star Wars. While it was too late to include the likes of Yoda in Disney Infinity, plenty of recent films will have their own play sets available at launch. The Lone Ranger and Monsters University will both be present and available at launch, and even more unannounced properties are being planned to join in on the fun as the game's fan base (hopefully) grows.

The focus of developer Avalanche Software was to bring all of the memorable characters from past and present Disney properties together for a memorable experience. By including characters like Jack Sparrow, Sully, and Mr. Incredible with the actual Disney Infinity game, it's easy to see just how much depth the studio has been given initially in terms of access to classic properties — and a lot more franchises are represented through in-game items, too.

The dev managed to impress a few members of the Game Rant staff when we went hands-on with Disney Infinity during E3 2013, which, suffice to say, has us optimistic for the final product. Much to the chagrin of parents, the game and a heap of Infinity's very collectible action figures aren't that far off. Brace your wallet for impact, parents.

Disney Infinity will come to life on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, Wii, PC, and 3DS on August 18th.
