Dishonored Knife of Dunwall Announced

As expected, Arkane Studios today revealed the next DLC expansion for Dishonored. While the game's first DLC was more of a time trials-esque expansion, one that we weren't all that pleased with, this next one sounds right up our alley.

Titled The Knife of Dunwall, this Dishonored DLC puts players into the shoes of the Daud, the assassin who sets the entire Dishonored story in motion. Vigilant gamers will recognize Daud as the man who actually killed the Empress, although it is Corvo who is framed for her murder.

In The Knife of Dunwall, players will find out what happened to Daud after the deed was done. And as luck would have it, Daud too has a run-in with the mysterious Outsider, who apparently bequeaths him with supernatural powers similar to Corvo's. Here's the expansion's synopsis:

In The Knife of Dunwall you take on the role of Daud, the legendary assassin who killed the Empress, and access his weapons, gadgets, allies and supernatural abilities. After assassinating the Empress, and forever changing the fate of Dunwall, you embark on a search for redemption. The Outsider reveals the key to your atonement, but who–or what–is Delilah? Accompanied by the Whalers, your loyal band of mercenary assassins, your search will take you through never-before-seen districts of Dunwall as you face off against new and terrible foes.

The new powers Daud will have at his disposal include the 'Summon Assassin' power, which lets him call upon his whaler companions for help, the 'Void Gaze' power, which highlights bone charms and ruins hidden throughout the environment. Players will also have access to variations on old powers like 'Blink.'

As far as weapons are concerned, The Knife of Dunwall will include Chokedust for dazing enemies, Stun Mines, and a hidden wristbow for sleep and poison darts. Sounds like Daud will be plenty equipped for battle.

Along with new weapons and powers, The Knife of Dunwall will also include several new environments for players to explore, including the Flooded District. How each will play into the story is unclear, but the developer does promise players will understand Daud's side of the story when all is said and done.

Arkane also revealed that The Knife of Dunwall is only one part of a two-part DLC package. Players will conclude the story in Dishonored's final piece of DLC, The Brightmore Witches.

That's about all Arkane is willing to reveal about The Knife of Dunwall, though, but we should learn more in the weeks leading up to the DLC's release on April 16th. Until then, an opportunity to play around in Arkane Studios' fantastic sandbox, and the promise of new powers, has us very excited.
