Debuting back in 1999, Dino Crisis is still one of the most beloved original PlayStation games of all time. Though its later entries were a bit of a mixed bag, fans are desperate to see the series return. Developed by the same team as the original Resident Evil, including director Shinji Mikami, the first Dino Crisis saw players investigate a mysterious underground research facility on a remote island, where they'd soon encounter some terrifying dinosaur foes. While Capcom may not be making another Dino Crisis anytime soon, the upcoming film 65 could scratch that itch.

Produced by Sam Raimi, starring Adam Driver, and boasting the writers behind A Quiet Place, 65 is set to release in March 2023, and Dino Crisis fans may notice some similar plot details. Releasing a debut trailer just a few days ago, 65 sees Adam Driver crash on Earth some 65 million years in the past, and he's not alone in this prehistoric landscape.

Why Dino Crisis Fans Should Keep an Eye on 65

Adam Driver 65 T Rex

The general premise of 65 sees Adam Driver playing a spaceship pilot named Mills. After his transport ship is hit by an asteroid, Mills' ship crash lands on Earth, though he seems to have been transported 65 million years in the past. Only finding one other passenger still alive, Mills must survive for as long as he can until he can find a way back home - but that's easier said than done, as he's quickly surrounded by some hungry dinosaurs.

Though the Dino Crisis series doesn't quite have the same plot as 65, the two properties appear to share some similar set pieces and beats. The first Dino Crisis sees players drop into a top-secret research facility on a remote island where they encounter some vicious dinosaurs. While most of the game takes place in this facility, players do end up exploring the jungles above the facility, where they similarly need to survive until they can find a way off the island.

The first Dino Crisis sees dinosaurs brought to Earth through a rift in space, caused by an experiment gone wrong, and 65 also seems to have some kind of spacial anomaly responsible for why Adam Driver's ship is mysteriously flung 65 million years into the past. Dino Crisis 2 ups the ante, and sees players travel through time themselves in order to rescue displaced scientists. It's a little too early to guess, but it's possible that 65 ends with people coming to rescue Adam Driver similarly, using time distortion technology to take him back to his own time.

Dino Crisis 3 also shares some similar traits of 65. Being set in the year 2548, Dino Crisis 3 sees players board a ship that's been overrun by mutated, futuristic dinosaurs, and players receive an arsenal of high-tech weaponry to wipe them out. The film 65 also seems to boast some high-tech weaponry, with its debut trailer showing Adam Driver using a futuristic automatic weapon and some sort of gravity grenades.

The last Dino Crisis to release was Dino Crisis 3 in 2003. It has been almost two decade since the last Dino Crisis game came out, and fans are desperate for another entry in the dormant Capcom franchise. While Capcom may be reluctant to bring it back, at least Dino Crisis fans have other dinosaur content to chew on in the meantime, and it seems as though 65 could be a real hidden gem.
