In a statement clearly designed to take advantage of Modern Warfare 2's preposterous DLC pricing, DICE Senior Producer Patrick Bach told Xbox 360 Magazine that they would never make customers pay for DLC, even though they're under the EA umbrella;

"We don't ever want to charge for our maps and insisted to EA that this attitude was crucial when it came to keeping our community happy and playing together"

DLC for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 went on sale day before yesterday, competing against the giant that is Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 'Stimulus Package'. The only difference being, the 'Stimulus Package' will set you back $15 (and may not work properly) whereas the Bad Company 2 DLC will cost you absolutely nothing (and it came months sooner than the MW2 maps in relation to its release date). Call me old-fashioned, but I'd take free content over paid content anyday.

Personally, I think it's great news for owners of Bad Company 2. The knowledge that DICE will never force customers to pay money for the map packs must be encouraging, especially seeing as Microsoft are well-known for asking developers to put a price on the DLC (case in point: Left 4 Dead 2's The Passing).

Do any of you Game Rant readers own both titles? I'm sure that if I owned Bad Company 2, I'd much rather download the 'VIP 2' DLC for free, rather than paying for the 'Stimulus Package' - no matter how much I liked MW2's multiplayer, $15 is a lot of money!

The VIP 2 Downloadable Map Packs are now available for download on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC versions of Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
