There is still hope! Despite the belief that we might not see the long awaited release of Diablo 3 until at least 2012, Blizzard revealed in a recent interview that we could see the third installment sooner than we think.
Fans have been waiting for more of the Diablo universe since the 2000 release of Diablo 2 and its 2001 expansion, Lord of Destruction. Since the announcement of the third installment, the game has been teased with artwork, trailers and screenshots online and demonstrated at Blizzard’s own BlizzCon – only exponentially increasing the eagerness of the fans.
Between the released screenshots and the public hands-on demos, the masses have agreed that the game visually appears good to go, but it’s unanimously known that Blizzard will ship a project when it’s ready. That said, there still hasn’t been a specific timeframe confirmed – not even a year.
The good news is we can now raise an optimistic eyebrow thanks to Jay Wilson, director of the Diablo 3. Wilson recently spoke with New York Times about the game and gave a tidbit of promising information:
We’re definitely in the home stretch. We’re crunching. This is when the magic happens.
We aren’t far into 2011, so there is a decent possibility of seeing Diablo 3 hit shelves within this calendar year, especially if they are just adding the final touches and tweaks.
Although Wilson did not confirm a specific release date, BlizzCon 2011 is approaching (October 21-22) and it would make sense for them to choose that venue to announce a solidified date.
If they are looking at 2011, an announcement at this year’s BlizzCon would put the game in a Q4 release where heavy hitters such as Skyrim, Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect 3 reside.
Diablo 3 is slated for a release on PC and Mac, and there are still hints about the possibility of Diablo 3 on consoles.

I can’t wait to watch all my free time go out the window.
“Between the released screenshots and the public hands-on demos, the masses have agreed that the game visually appears good to go, but it’s unanimously known that Blizzard will ship a project when it’s ready.”
Visual appeal in D3 is probably the most polarized issue right now with the game. There is an online petition that is over how the current art direction is far to bright, kid friendly and includes… rainbows. The art director resigned in 2008 from the Diablo 3 development team and a new one was found instantly, needless to say the 63,783 total signatures on a very infamous poll probably had some effect when the investors saw it could possibly grow and dwindle their bottom line. They acted and pushed him out… quietly.
I say all this because it is very shoddy reporting for you to make such alligations, especially after you drip some of the blizzards kool-aid all over your article by declaring:
“not see the long awaited release of Diablo 3 until at least 2012, Blizzard revealed in a recent interview that we could see the third installment sooner than we think.”
It is funny as you are dispensing the same drip they have been giving to all the dumb media that repeat it like gospel. Blizzard is just another company that needs another bottom line, they are trying to keep interest in a title that is probably taking longer than they had hoped. If you look at when they announced it, in 2008 but development on Diablo III began in 2001 when Blizzard North was still in operation. So that is a span of a decade and they still have not produced a sell-able product to appease the clamor from investors. Not to mention they have gone through multiple engines and huge struggles over the skill tree after about twelve different versions were sampled.
Of course this is all what it takes to get a Blizzard title to the store with the same integrity that the Blizzard franchise has built its fan-base upon. So I suppose lets all dance Blizzards dance and act like we are hopeful it will launch next month like people want you to believe but in reality when they are making these sounds they are buying for time. My magic 8 ball says they release Diablo 3, 100% accuracy.
History repeats itself folks, Blizzards track record says it itself. It takes forever and they need to keep people ready with their wallets ready to burn.
I know when I get Diablo 3 I will play the hell out of it though.
GG’s bros and peace.
I really can’t wait for this game!! It should be amazing!
