The original Deus Ex is not only one of the most highly-lauded and influential action RPGs of all time, it's also widely considered to be one of the best PC games of all time. Eidos Montreal's recent prequel, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, was released on consoles as well but the franchise still feels most at home on PC.

Because of this, it was pretty baffling when the spin-off title Deus Ex: The Fall, which sounded in every way like the perfect piece of standalone DLC, was announced for release exclusively on mobile platforms. Fortunately, Square Enix eventually remembered the location of Deus Ex's core fanbase and announced that a PC version would be released on Steam as well.

The PC release date was originally set for release on March 25th, but has now been made available a week early with the limited offer of a free copy of Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition to go with it. For those who enjoyed Deus Ex: Human Revolution but haven't yet played the original, this is a great opportunity to explore the origins of the series while we wait for the next game in the franchise.

Deus Ex: The Fall is an extension of the tie-in novel "Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect," and features a new game protagonist, Ben Saxon. Admittedly he doesn't seem primed to shock gamers with his radically different look and personality, since some unspoken law dictates that the Deus Ex default protagonist is a growly-voiced man with sunglasses, but he does have a British accent. That's different.

Because it's a mobile port, the graphics in Deus Ex: The Fall don't look that great and the voice-acting in the launch trailer above is a little flat and unconvincing. Still, if it means getting a chance to take the gameplay mechanics of Deus Ex: Human Revolution for another spin then it's probably worth the price tag. There are also 28 Steam achievements to unlock along with Steam Trading cards to be earned along the way.
