DX HR PC Features Screenshots 3D DirectX

Later this year, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is scheduled for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Most of the focus to date has centered on the console versions of Eidos Montreal’s hybrid shooter/RPG and the fact that they have not been “dumbed down” from their PC counterpart. Nonetheless, the Deus Ex franchise is still strongly associated with the PC, and for those who prefer a mouse and keyboard and maximum fidelity in their graphics, Square Enix has announced some of the exclusive features for the PC and the recommended system specifications. Additionally, the first PC screenshots have been released to the public.

Eidos Montreal has teamed up with developer Nixxes to code the PC version of DX: HR, which, unsurprisingly, appears to have several graphical advantages over the consoles versions. First, the game will support DirectX 11 and use tessellation to improve the character silhouettes. Jurjen Katsman, the President of Nixxes, explains why this is significant:

In Deus Ex: Human Revolution you see characters up close a lot as you interact with them, like in dialogues. Using tessellation to improve their look really helps make the world and the characters more believable, which is important in a story-heavy game like Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Second, if you have a lot of coin to spend on your PC gaming setup, DX: HR can be configured to play on five (!) monitors for the ultimate panoramic experience so long as your computer is AMD Eyefinity-enabled. Oh and if that was not enough, each screen can also display visuals in 3D, if you have 3D-capable monitors that is. No word on whether on whether a barf bag will be a required gaming accessory.

Notwithstanding the integration of these features, Eidos Montreal claims that it optimized the engine specifically for the PC’s multi-core technology. Gamers with a dual-core system can expect a speed increase of up to 70% according to Eidos Montreal.

So what kind of gaming rig will PC fans need in order to play DX: HR in the way envisioned by Eidos Montreal? Here are the recommended specifications:

  • OS: Windows 7
  • PROCESSOR: AMD Phenom II X4 or Intel Core 2 Quad or better
  • RAM: 2 GB
  • GRAPHICS: AMD Radeon HD 5850
  • REQUIRED DISC SPACE: 8.5 GB

Have an older setup and can’t afford an upgrade? You may still be able to run DX: HR at a lower resolution if your system meets the following specs:

  • OS: Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 with DirectX 9.0c
  • PROCESSOR: 2 GHz dual core
  • RAM: 1 GB RAM (Windows XP) / 2 GB (Windows Vista and Windows 7)
  • GRAPHICS: NVIDIA GeForce 8000 series or ATI Radeon HD 2000 series or better
  • REQUIRED DISC SPACE: 8.5 GB

If the above feature set still has you on the fence over whether you should purchase the PC edition over its console counterpart, the following screenshots may be the final push you need.
