This week has been a big one for Destiny players, perhaps the biggest of 2015. Not only did Bungie release the major 1.1.1 update, which finally removed the Destiny heavy ammo bug and made important weapon balance changes, but they also gave players a way to manage inventory without heading to the Tower.

So, with excitement for Destiny already much higher than it's been in quite some time, many turned their attention towards Xur in the hope he might have a great selection. It would be only fitting that Bungie close out the week strong by outfitting Xur with some truly worthwhile items, but really its the RNG that holds the keys.

First we have to find Xur, who this week is hiding in Tower North, which is actually to the left once players spawn. He's at the far end of the area on a balcony over looking Earth.

Xur's Exotic Selection

Although Xur has been pretty repetitive when it comes to exotic armor, this week he has a real treat for Hunters and in particular Warlocks. For Hunters, this is the first time he has sold the ATS/8 Arachnid helmet, which should help many players round out their exotic armor collection. Granted, it's not a great helmet, but it has its uses, especially for regular Golden Gun users.

Warlocks, however, will be extremely pleased to see the Heart of Praxic Fire chest piece, arguably the best armor piece for the class. Being able to throw grenades (during Radiance) with minimal cooldown is extremely useful, especially for any who plan to solo Crota's End on Hard. However, it is a bit disappointing that Xur arrives with the chest piece after selling a chest engram since most used that to try and get the exotic armor.

In most cases, we would have looked at Xur's exotic weapon, the Universal Remote, and taken a hard pass on the primary shotgun. But the recent 1.1.1 update has changed that. Because the update has made shotguns 2x as effective, the Universal Remote has now become a deadly exotic when used in PvE.

For a full rundown of Xur’s items and prices see the list below:

  • No Backup Plans (Titan Gauntlets) – 13 Strange Coins
  • ATS/8 Arachnid (Hunter DLC Helmet) – 13 Strange Coins
  • Heart of Praxic Fire (Warlock Chest Armor) – 13 Strange Coins
  • Universal Remote (Shotgun) – 17 Strange Coins
  • Exotic Shard – 7 Strange Coins
  • Exotic Helmet Engram – 23 Motes of Light

Exotic Upgrades

For exotic upgrades, Xur finally has the Mask of the Third Man, which is a big help to Hunters in Crota's End on hard. Thanks to its 'Infusion' ability, which replenishes health when picking up an orb, Hunters have a safeguard in case they take a little too much damage.

He didn't show up with a Gjallarhorn and close out the week with a bang, but Xur did have some useful items in his selection, a few of which are sure to please veteran Guardians. We should also point out that the weekend after Bungie fixes the heavy ammo bug Xur shows up without synthesis. That Agent of the Nine is a cheeky fellow.
