Destiny Increasing Vault Space Update

Ever since its launch in September, Destiny has firmly cemented its place as one of the most contentious triple-A releases around. Some praise the game’s addictive gameplay and multiplayer experiences, while others criticize the game for its perceived lack of content and threadbare story.

For the latter group, Destiny is likely beyond saving, but for the former there is still room to improve. Whether it be new features, more gameplay experiences, or just some basic weapon tweaks, Bungie has tried to ensure their community that they are dedicated to making Destiny better.

Most of those improvements have come in the form of substantial updates, another of which is slated to launch very soon. In fact, Bungie went so far as to say “the coming weeks” in their latest Weekly Update.

For today’s post, the focus was on Vault Space, which is set to get a big boost with the next update. For a while now Destiny players have tried to keep all of their favorite armor and weapon pieces, but the inventory limitations have made that difficult. Soon, however, those concerns could be a thing of the past.

With the next update, Bungie will be boosting the Destiny Vault Space up to 24 slots for armor, 36 slots for weapons, and 24 slots for the miscellaneous category. That’s a 16-item jump from the current Vault Space limits, which support 20 items across the board.

Destiny Increase Vault Space

Obviously the increase in Vault Space is a welcome change, but Bungie was quick to point out that the inventory problems aren’t quite as prolific as some may believe. According to their statistics, only about 21% of players who are level 30 or higher have a full vault or less than 4 free spaces.

"Very few people have completely full Vaults, but a lot of endgame players are bumping up against the limits. For example, 21% of players who are level 30+ have 4 or fewer free spaces in their weapon Vaults right now. The armor and general sections are slightly less full for most people, but not by much. Even at lower levels, there’s a small but measurable fraction of players under level 20 who have full Vaults. You could charitably think of them as “collectors” or uncharitably label them as “packrats,” but some people just flat out like holding onto their stuff. Personally, I’m still waiting for the Pocket Infinity bounty so I can use up the 10 rare fusion rifles I have saved. It has to drop sooner or later."

At the same time, it’s worth mentioning that most Destiny die-hards have started using their second and third characters as storage lockers. So while some player vaults may have not be full that doesn’t the players aren’t dying for more space. Thankfully the Mobile Vault Management in the Destiny app and on Bungie.net has made the whole process easier.

It seemed practically a given that Bungie would increase Destiny vault space before the launch of the House of Wolves DLC, if only because there are new armor and weapon sets on the way. While armor is disposable once players move up in level - few level 32s need Vault of Glass raid armor anymore - some exotics and raid legendary weapons are still plenty useful. Two Vault of Glass weapons, for example, made our list of the top 10 Destiny guns, even though they are only 300 attack power.

So, with even more items on the way, space is going to be essential. Good on Bungie for realizing that – although it would have been nice to see the bump sooner – and we hope it makes Destiny players’ experience a little easier.

Do you think the Vault space increases are enough to meet your needs? What other features do you hope are in the next update?
