Bungie reveals that the Spring Update it has been teasing will bring with it an increase to Destiny's Light level, new gear and weapons, and PvE content.

Destiny fans have been feeling the game's lack of content for some time now. Despite recurring activities like Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris, live events like the Sparrow Racing League, and this week's Crimson Days, players have been asking for meatier content. With rumors last month that Destiny's sequel had been pushed to 2017, a roadmap of Destiny's future has been a common request by the game's community. And that's what they got today.

Bungie has revealed some details about the content that is coming to Destiny in the run up to Destiny 2. Besides confirming that a full sequel is set to arrive in 2017 and a new major expansion is coming later in 2016, Bungie also clarified a little more about the Spring update, vaguely teased earlier this year as "larger than anything you’ve seen since the release of The Taken King."

Sometime in the Spring, Destiny fans can look forward to an update that will bring much more than any of the live events that have attempted to fill the gap since The Taken King's launch:

"[The Spring] content release will feature a significant Light increase, a bunch of new gear to earn and equip, and new challenges for PvE players seeking some more fun experiences and replayability."

Light level increases have always occurred in the past with expansions — The Dark Below, House of Wolves, and The Taken King. There's no news right now about what gear might be coming, but it could include the exotics that are in the Destiny database but have yet to show up in the game.

Possibly the biggest news is that the Spring Update will include PvE content. Fans have been desperate for more PvE content since The Taken King's release, especially because all of Bungie's live events so far have been variations of PvP content. For a game that had such a heavy focus on PvE in its first year (even to the point where PvP-only players seemed penalized), fans have definitely felt the lack of meaningful PvE content.

But details of that content remain a mystery. It could be a small event, similar to Queen's Wrath, which debuted in the months following Destiny's launch. That event was a pretty big failure, and it hasn't been seen in the game since. Or could the unknown PvE content be more in line with an activity like Prison of Elders, a replayable arena or Horde-type game mode?

Depending on how much new gear is coming with the Spring Update and how extensive its PvE offering is, fans could be looking at something comparable to House of Wolves in size. And with Bungie's language making it sound like it will be a Spring Update instead of an expansion, it will most likely be a free game update.

Even though Bungie has revealed these details, there are still a lot of questions so fans will have to wait and see for more answers.

Are you happy with the news of the Spring Update coming to Destiny? What do you think the PvE content will be?
