They say that the grass is always greener on the other side, so it's no surprise that gamers here on Earth are constantly attracted to alien environments, structures, and enemies. Both Destiny and Alien: Isolation will be keeping the trend alive in the coming years, sending players from the safety of Earth to the harshness of outer space, or the dangerous creatures residing in our very own solar system.

The games may still be months away, but the latest screenshots lets Alien fans get a better sense of just how chilling it can be to have a Xenomorph for a roommate, while Destiny fans can see just how much the passage of time has changed the surfaces of Mars and Venus (not to mention the alien enemies who call them home).

Before we delve into all-out action, we present another look at the tense, terrifying tone that the development team at Creative Assembly is pursuing in their attempt to recreate the atmosphere of Ridley Scott's original Alien film, not the bullet-filled film that followed. Stepping aboard the same space stations as the original movie as Ellen Ripley's daughter, players will apparently have the chance to pick their way through the carnage left by just a single Xenomorph.

But if the idea of spending an entire game avoiding an enemy seemed like a dry experience, these screenshots seem to imply that players will have more than a few close encounters. Take a look:

Movie fans will take particular interest in seeing just how well the team looks to have captured the designs of the source material, and with recent confirmation that Alien: Isolation will be a strictly singleplayer experience, it's nice to know that players won't be completely alone. Even if they don't get to choose the temper (or species) of their company.

While Amanda Ripley will be keeping her distance from extraterrestrial threats, the characters of Destiny will be taking a different approach. Bungie, the developers of the Halo series haven't distinguished themselves thanks to their stealth gameplay, so it's no surprise that the newest screenshots show soldiers in the last of humanity's armed forces taking the fight to the Cabal, the Vex, and others on planets within our own solar system:

Whether it's Mars or the surface of Venus, Destiny won't just present a chance to engage in some MMo-esque gameplay with your online friends, but see the most iconic landscapes within our own solar system... and then blow them to smithereens.

More details will be needed to understand how these seemingly uninhabitable locations in our own background have come to be home to alien species, but with the studio's history in expansive fiction, we'd wager it will be a long time before the pieces all come together.

Which of these close encounters has your attention? The opportunity to survive and defeat an entire army of alien warriors as an elite soldier, or simply escape a single creature with nothing more than improvised tools? Share your thoughts in the comments.
