It's been almost a year since Destiny launched across numerous platforms on September 9th, 2014. The game was the subject of an immense amount of pre-release hype, with fans of Bungie clamoring to see the studio's first non-Halo game in over a decade. That popularity has yet to waver, as Destiny is more popular than ever, recently surpassing a milestone of 20 million players.

Bungie has been able to keep players interested in Destiny in a couple of ways. For one, they are constantly updating the game, making changes to it based on fan feedback and addressing technical issues. The second way is through the release of expansion packs, the first being The Dark Below and the second being the recently released House of Wolves.

With the release of House of Wolves, the season pass promises for Destiny have now been fulfilled. However, Bungie is in it for the long haul, and they expect Destiny to have a much longer lifespan than most games, which rarely receive any DLC or expansions after the season pass contents have all been released. In fact, leaked materials suggest that Destiny has at least three more expansions in the works.

As it turns out, fans may have the opportunity to find out about Destiny's rumored third expansion, which Red Bull has leaked as being named The Taken King, as soon as this year's E3 event. Deej, community manager at Bungie, made the company's E3 plans clear in the conclusion of the game's latest weekly update report. In the post, he stated:

"And, we’ll see you at E3. That’s right. You might have seen mention of Bungie this or Destiny that on E3 schedules. We’ll have some things to tease. Wouldn’t miss it for the world."

With Bungie confirmed to be at E3 to show off Destiny related content, it's almost a foregone conclusion that the game's third expansion will be unveiled. There's also a possibility that Bungie will go into detail about the rumored item trading, which speculation has pointed to being a part of their mysterious Eververse trademark.

The question remains, however, as to which platform Bungie will use to reveal the expansion and any other Destiny teases. The game's publisher, Activision, hasn't hosted their own E3 press conference in years, and will not be doing so this year either. This leaves Destiny without a home at E3.

However, considering Bungie's close relationship with Sony in regards to Destiny, it is most likely that the third expansion will be revealed during Sony's press conference. Last year's E3 conference for Sony was practically dominated by Destiny, and it was heavily pushed as the must-have game for the system. There's no reason to expect anything different this year when E3 rolls around.

Destiny is currently available for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. News on any future expansions for the game will come at this year's E3 event in just a couple of weeks.
