Bungie reveals the next live event coming to Destiny in February called Crimson Days, which will celebrate Valentine's Day and features a new Crucible game type.

Bungie has broken its radio silence and posted the first Bungie Weekly Update of 2016, which reveals the next live event coming to Destiny. The event, dubbed Crimson Days, will debut in February and add a new Crucible game type called Crimson Doubles to the fray.

This February, in the world of the real, loving couples will descend upon crowded restaurants to exchange gifts and glance deeply into each other’s fluttering eyes. In the world of Destiny, the Guardians will be celebrating the rare variety of companionship that can only be found in the heat of battle. You’re invited to the Tower to partake in the real party, a ritual known by the brave as Crimson Days.

The event, which is said to be about the size of Destiny's Halloween-themed event Festival of the Lost, will appear in the Tower on Tuesday, February 9th. The 9th will also see the launch of the February update for Destiny, which Bungie says will bring "other improvements and fixes" to the game.

Crimson Doubles is a variation of Destiny's Doubles Crucible playlist, which features 2v2 gameplay. Bungie says players will need to team up to win and, more importantly, unlock unique loot.

[Crimson Doubles] features a special twist, born of new gameplay and mechanics that only battle-tested star-crossed lovers will appreciate. You’ll need a dancing partner – preferably one that compliments your fighting style. The two of you will have a chance to earn some “sweet” loot together in the Crucible. To receive your gifts, you’ll have to put your differences aside and fight well as a couple.

Bungie has yet to fully detail what the new gametype will entail and what loot will be available to players. Could Crimson Doubles offer maxed 320 gear just as the last live event Sparrow Racing League did? Hopefully, Bungie will spill all the details in next week's Weekly Update.

The new variation of Doubles was spotted recently on Bungie designer Lars Bakken's PSN profile, and the assumption was that it would be part of the next live event. At the time, the rumor was the event would be called The Dawning, but while this gametype is confirmed as part of the next event, references to The Dawning are nowhere to be seen.

As for The Dawning, it could be the larger game update Bungie has promised is coming sometime later in 2016. Or it could have been completely scrapped and replaced by Crimson Days, only remaining in the database (where it was discovered by data mining) as a vestige of development.

Are you excited for Destiny's next live event Crimson Days? What do you think the new Crimson Doubles gametype will entail?
