Friday has rolled around once more which also signals the return of Xur, Destiny 2's exotic merchant. As expected, the mysterious vendor has also brought along four year 1 exotics each with randomized rolls that were introduced with Forsaken. While most players likely have these items at this point, the random perks associated with them may help to add a little extra appeal and make them worth picking up once again.

Speaking of exotics, Bungie appears to be expanding the current pool as players have discovered new audio files and UI elements related to a classic Destiny 1 weapon and location. Both appear to be tied to an upcoming questline at the end of the month involving the murder of Reef Cryptarch Master Ives. At this time it's unknown if the weapon is unlocked by just completing the quest light the Fighting Lion for the Haunted Forest, or if it's more of a secret that needs to be discovered similar to the Whisper of the Worm sniper rifle.

In the meantime, however, here's where players can find Xur as well as each item being offered for sale this weekend in Destiny 2:

Where is Xur?

This week, Xur is hiding out on Io, a popular destination for weekend players who are looking to score the Whisper of the Worm exotic sniper rifle.

In order to find the shifty merchant, fast travel to Giant's Scar and head into the massive area with the drill in the middle. Upon entering, head left and follow the path around until you reach a few caves dug into the wall. He's hiding within them.

Class Armor

This week, Xur has brought two vanilla exotic gear pieces and one introduced in the Warmind expansion.

Crown of Tempests - Warlock helm

A great option for Warlocks that run the Stormcaller arc subclass, the Crown of Tempests really shines when using Stormtrance. Conduction Tines reduces the recharge timer for arc abilities after an arc kill. In addition, the duration of Stormtrance is also increased after an arc kill.

While Stormtrance received a much-needed buff in the big Sandbox update, the super isn't as popular as it once was thanks to better options like Nova Warp and Chaos Reach. Still, it's an exotic that is worth a player's time for the arc enhancements.

Fixed Gear Rolls:

  • Mobility OR Restorative
  • Bow Targeting, Hand Cannon Targeting, Hands-on (Melee kills grant bonus super energy)

  • Shotgun Reserves, Heavy Ammo Finder

The Dragon's Shadow - Hunter chest armor

Largely an underrated or overlooked Hunter exotic item as it doesn't have the flashiest exotic perk, though it is incredibly useful. Wraithmetal mail enhances the dodge ability by reloading all weapons while increasing both movement and weapon handling speeds for a brief time.

What's particularly powerful about this exotic is that it gives the user Marksman's Dodge for free, meaning the player can also equip Gambler's Dodge and gain free weapon reloads and faster melee recharges. When combined with the Gunslinger's Way of a Thousand Cuts which also reloads melee knives, the player can ensure that they will be throwing knives non-stop.

Fixed Gear Rolls:

  • Resilience OR Recovery
  • Unflinching Fusion Aim, Unflinching Bow Aim, Unflinching Sniper Aim
  • Scout Rifle Scavenger OR Special Ammo Finder

Ashen Wake - Titan gauntlets

An exotic primarily made for fusion grenade users, Ashen Wake are pretty situational. Bring the Heat makes fusion grenades explode on impact and gives the player increased throw speed. Fusion grenades were given a buff in August, so the exotics are in a much better state than they were, but Titans do have better choices available to them.

Fixed Gear Rolls:

  • Resilience OR Recovery
  • Fusion Rifle Loader, Hand Cannon Loader, Impact Induction where causing melee damage reduces grenade cooldown.
  • Shotgun Scavenger OR Heavy Ammo Finder

Exotic Weapon

For those who don't have it, this week's exotic weapon is absolutely worth picking up. The Crimson hand cannon remains a popular choice even with plenty of new options like Trust, Ace of Spades, and Luna's Howl to name a few. While its intrinsic perk, Banned Weapon, gives Crimson the ability to fire a three-round burst, the more interesting aspect to this gun is its unique perk Cruel Remedy. Killing an enemy heals the player and precision kills actually refill the magazine.

It's a great gun to take on difficult missions as not only can the player heal themselves quickly, precision kills can ensure that the player never needs to stop firing. While it's been around a while, it's a must buy for those who don't already own it.

Here's the complete rundown of Xur's entire stock for Oct 19:

  • Ashen Wake (Titan arms) – 23 Legendary Shards
  • The Dragon's Shadow (Hunter chest) – 23 Legendary Shards
  • Crown of Tempests (Warlock helm) – 23 Legendary Shards
  • Crimson (Hand Cannon) – 29 Legendary Shards
  • Fated Engram - 97 Legendary Shards
  • Five of Swords Challenge Card

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
