Destiny 2 is a game where character development is a key part of the overarching story, which started with Destiny back in 2014 and it is still going strong heading into The Witch Queen. The expansion will drop in February 2022, and it is likely going to be one of the largest the game has ever seen, finally addressing Savathun in full after the events of Destiny 2's Season of the Lost. While Savathun is a major player in Season 15, the narrative also revolves around Mara Sov and her resurrected brother, Uldren, who is now a Lightbearer named Crow.

Crow has been a successful character who, ever since Bungie featured him in Season of the Hunt, become a fan favorite because of his traits and the fact that he redeemed Uldren. Uldren getting a second chance at life through the Traveler's Light and his Ghost, Glint, is not the only way he could have been redeemed, and that is clear reading into the lines Mara says in Season of the Lost. Destiny 2's newest Exotic weapon is a Kinetic Stasis trace rifle called Ager's Scepter, and its lore tab also looks at the connection between Uldren and Mara's machinations and manipulations.

Destiny 2: Mara's Cruelty and the Ager's Scepter Lore Tab

This Season, Mara Sov revealed her true colors in the way she relates to Crow, but also in how she really felt about her brother. She said it was her intention to have Uldren die and then be resurrected by the Light, that way she could "wield" him as she would any other weapon. Uldren was not without flaws in his first life, but those were most likely exacerbated by all the times his sister, whom he adored and blindly believed in, was cold and cruel.

Many Destiny 2 fans who were around for the first game might remember how Uldren was often cocky toward the Guardians, and spiteful when interacting with them, having to share intel or anything else. Uldren carried that hatred for the Guardians for a long time, and he even went up against Petra for seeking the help of those blessed by the Traveler when Mara was gone after the battle against Oryx. All of this was Mara's doing, in a way, as she was the one manipulating Uldren into defining his life by her presence - or her absence.

The Ager's Scepter lore tab outlines a small moment that bears a lot of importance to how Uldren was belittled by Mara, even when he was sharing the story of Ager and Rega with a few excited kids. Uldren was serene at that moment, and he had something to believe in the day before the Battle of Saturn where many Awoken lost their lives. Being around children and telling them stories of hope, of two twin kestrels capable to overcome all enemies as long as they stood together, was a sign Uldren was not lost.

After Mara's death and the corruption of the Dreaming City, there was not much else for Uldren to believe in. Mara didn't speak to him, and he didn't know whether he was on the right path because she had taught him to doubt himself; to lean on her better judgment for every choice. Ultimately, Uldren was never his own person, but rather someone who was defined by his sister first - and later Savathun and the Taken Riven. They made him do what he did in Forsaken by leveraging the fondness he had for his sister, which led to the Dreaming City reopening its gates and Cayde's death.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
