Since the launch of Destiny 2: Beyond Light, the most recent expansion to come to the ongoing title, a number of issues have risen up to stall players' progress or impede their playing experience. Most players have been fairly understanding, given the nature of game design and project communication in 2020, still remaining excited about upcoming activities like the Vault of Glass raid, though some recent design choices are still rubbing players the wrong way.

One of these issues comes from Shadowkeep, 2019's expansion to Destiny 2 that ushered in the free-to-play era alongside the game's introduction to the season model. The problem players are having specifically involves the Champion enemies that these seasons introduced for the sake of having seasonal artifacts give customization options for how to deal with them.

This issue, which isn't really a new gripe by players, has recently been brought back to the forefront of the discussion by the community, getting its own megathread on the Bungie Plz subreddit. Specifically, these players have begun complaining about the short-range teleports that Champions use to jump around the map while fighting them, making getting in close and dealing decent damage an annoyance more than a challenge. The mechanic itself is nothing new for enemies like Fallen Captains, Vex Minotaurs, and other powerful enemies like Destiny 2's raid bosses, but the way that Champions abuse the tactic is getting out of hand.

The fix that most players have begun suggesting isn't to simply remove the ability to teleport, but to to add a cooldown to the ability and keep the Champions from darting all around the map in rapid succession. Having an ability that creates distance and forces a player to misfire a shot if caught off guard isn't necessarily a bad mechanic for a powerful enemy to have. In fact, when utilized well, it can be a challenging bit of RNG that makes powerful enemies in Destiny 2 even more interesting, though the utility is far from perfect with these Champions.

There are reworks that these enemies could benefit from, with the cooldown on the teleportation still being the favored among most players, though that might make accounting for the timing too easy. Like any aspect of rebalancing Destiny 2, it may come down to more than a simple fix or tweaking one number or the other. Additional fixes like adding teleportation distance limits based on the same cooldown timers might be able to mitigate negative experiences from fans, but it may take some time for Bungie to fully address the issue.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
