Demon Slayer season 2 treated fans to some of the most exciting moments in the series yet. Leading up to the release of season 3, there are however, several questions that were left hanging at season 2’s conclusion.

After the heartbreaker that was Mugen train, we were left wondering how the story would progress going forward. How would the demon slayers recover from Rengoku’s death? Would the story continue on the negative spiral his death set up? While season 2 answered all of that and more, it in turn left fans with a host of new questions to occupy their minds. Here are some of the biggest ones.

What Will The Upper Moon Meeting Entail?

Muzan in Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer season 2 left off on quite the cliffhanger. The final scene shows Akaza, the upper moon 3 arriving in Muzan Kibutsuji’s infinity castle, realizing that he must have been summoned due to the death of an upper rank demon. We got a similar scene at the end of season 1, in which it was the lower rank of the twelve kizuki that were summoned for a meeting with Muzan. Considering that the lower moon meeting ended in the deaths of all but one of them, this gathering of upper moons must surely be interesting.

Muzan was enraged when Rui was killed, and he was only the weakest of his main demons. The upper moons however, are his strongest followers and have all retained their positions for hundreds of years. Now that Daki and Gyutaro have been taken out, it’s likely he will be even more upset this time around. As the leader of the demon slayers insisted, the death of an upper moon signals a significant change in the status quo of the series. Only time will tell what actions this upheaval will force Muzan to take. The meeting might also allow for a sneak peek at the unrevealed upper moons, most likely including the enigmatic, rainbow-eyed Doma who appeared in Gyutaro’s flashback.

What About Tanjiro's Sword?

Demon Slayer - Tanjiro Using The Transparent World Sort-Of

The destruction/damaging of Tanjiro’s swords is quickly becoming a habit for the young demon slayer. First he had his sword broken in half by Rui, and then he lost his replacement by throwing it at Akaza. Now, he’s chipped it in the fight with Daki and Gyutaro. While this is an improvement over his last two swords, his blacksmith Haganezuka almost killed him the last two times, so it’s unlikely he will be very willing to give yet another replacement so easily.

Season 3 has already been revealed to cover the “swordsmith village” arc of the story, implying that the swordsmiths will play a much bigger role than they have done before. The story can’t exactly progress with a swordless Tanjiro, but it’s unlikely that getting his new sword will be as simple as it’s been previously. But we’ll have to wait and see what trials await him in the swordsmith village.

What Will Happen With Nezuko?

Nezuko's Silence Featured Image

Nezuko’s reputation as one of the few demons who doesn’t eat humans has made her growth quite unpredictable. We’ve seen 2 other demons like this, namely Tamayo and Yushiro, but neither of them were active fighters. The fact that Nezuko has gotten stronger at all goes against the understood rules for how demons work. Usually demons should only be able to grow by eating humans. So now that she has unlocked an entirely new form, it’s almost impossible to predict what will happen to her next.

Even in her first time fighting in this new form though, she found herself drawn to human blood even more than before. Previously she was able to resist Sanemi’s potent blood without lashing out, but in her new form she had to be restrained by Tanjiro before she could attack civilians. So if the upcoming battles require her to step in again, will she be able to keep her cool? And if she can attain this new form, will she be able to develop one even stronger than this? And even more worryingly, will her new development cause Muzan to develop a greater interest in her?

Which Hashira Will We See in Action Next?

A trend has started to emerge in the progression of Demon Slayers story. Ever since the Hashira meeting in season 1, both major arcs have featured a Hashira at the forefront. Rengoku took the spotlight in the Mugen train arc, and Uzui just wrapped up his starring role in the entertainment district arc. It stands to reason that the next arc will give us a deeper look into one of the other Hashira.

Looking at the preview poster revealed for season 3, it seems like we might actually be getting focus on 2 Hashira this time. Both of the Hashira featured on the poster didn’t get much screen time during the Hashira meeting, so it will no doubt be exciting to get to know them and their unique styles of fighting. But after the nail-biting conflicts, Rengoku and Uzui were put through, what kind of threat would require 2 Hashira to adequately tackle?
