It seems to be a new trend nowadays for celebrities to sell their likeness to mobile game developers to make a quick, but sizable, buck. We've seen it done in the past with both Britney Spears and Katy Perry getting mobile games from Glu Mobile, the company that really started this trend with their Kim Kardashian: Hollywood title, and now developer Pocket Gems is throwing their hat in the ring with actress and singer Demi Lovato. Enter Demi Lovato: Path to Fame.

Demi Lovato: Path to Fame is a free-to-play title that is available right now for iOS and Android mobile devices. Players don't actually take control of Lovato herself in the game, but rather, hang around her while trying to become a famous musician.

Along the way, players will be tasked with choosing what to sacrifice in their personal lives to achieve fame, all the while interacting with real life personas from Lovato's own life, including her band and manager. A major part of the game will consist of the player dressing up their avatar, going on dates and attending exclusive parties, in an effort to bag some "hot guys".

As is always claimed, apparently Demi Lovato worked closely with the developers in order to make sure the game accurately reflects her style. "As my Lovatics know, it's very important that my personal experiences come through in everything I do and this story is no different. I think they will really enjoy this exclusive glimpse into my life that they haven't seen before," Lovato said in a statement regarding the game.

While most traditional gamers may be baffled at the appeal of a game like Demi Lovato: Path to Fame, it will assuredly find an audience and perform well. After all, there's a reason why games like this keep getting made, and the reason is they tend to make money in the crowded free-to-play market. In fact, Kim Kardashian West reportedly made over $200 million off her mobile game in the last year alone.

Furthermore, the developers and publishers behind these games are also making considerable bank. For exmaple, Glu Mobile is expected to make $500 million off their celebrity tie-in games this year, which equates to a lot of microtransactions. With money like this being made off microtransactions alone, it's no wonder we're seeing them incorporated into paid games as well.
