Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media, and by extension game publisher Bethesda, came at a time when the company had a number of PlayStation exclusivity deals in the works. These deals make upcoming Bethesda games GhostWire: Tokyo and Deathloop timed PS5 exclusives, even though the games are technically being produced by Microsoft. Microsoft has promised to honor these timed-exclusivity agreements, but now Xbox fans may have a better idea of when to expect Deathloop to hit their console of choice and therefore Xbox Game Pass.

Deathloop was one of the games featured during the recent PlayStation State of Play event, with it getting a nine minute deep dive into its gameplay. The Deathloop State of Play trailer ended with a graphic reminding everyone that it is a PlayStation 5 console exclusive game, and in the small print of that graphic, fans could see a note saying Deathloop will also be available on PC and it won't be out on other consoles until September 14, 2022 at the earliest.

Essentially, this means Deathloop's PS5 exclusivity will last for a year, and so it could launch for Xbox Series X at any point after that year is up. New video game releases tend to happen on Tuesdays and Fridays, so it's quite possible the Deathloop Xbox Series X release date will be Friday, September 16, 2022. Then again, it's also possible that Microsoft will release Deathloop on Xbox Series X the very first day it can do so, even though September 14, 2022 lands on a Wednesday. Alternatively, it could wait until an even later date to release the game instead.

Of course, whenever Deathloop does come to Xbox Series X, it will also be debuting on the Xbox Game Pass service. All first-party Xbox games come to Xbox Game Pass on day one, and Bethesda-published titles will be no exception to that rule. Deathloop being available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers on day one may very well make it up to Xbox fans who could be disappointed that an Xbox game is going to be a PlayStation exclusive for a full year.

While Deathloop is coming to PS5 first and will eventually make its way to Xbox, the next game from Arkane Studios won't be coming to PlayStation platforms at all. Announced at the end of Xbox's E3 2021 event was a new vampire game Redfall. Expected to launch in 2022, details on Redfall remain scarce, but it appears to be a co-op shooter game of some description. If it manages to hit its intended release window, it seems fans of Arkane Studios on Xbox will have a lot to look forward to next year.
