It's safe to say that there is a lot of anticipation for Hideo Kojima's first post-Konami game, Death Stranding. However, it remains to be seen just how long fans will have to wait for the game, but if video game industry analyst Michael Pachter is correct, they may have to wait until 2020 to get their hands on it.

Pachter believes that Death Stranding will likely be a cross-generational title, meaning it will release for both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5. If this were the case, Death Stranding would likely be a launch title for Sony's next-generation console, and it will launch in late 2019 or even 2020.

As it stands, Pachter believes that the PlayStation 5 will launch in 2020, and he's not alone in that prediction. Various other analysts have made similar predictions about when the next generation of consoles will release, and if they're correct, it wouldn't be surprising to see both versions of Death Stranding slip to 2020.

While Death Stranding could very well become a launch title for the PlayStation 5, fans shouldn't have to worry about the PS4 version of the game being cancelled. As we saw with the transition from PS3 to PS4, many game publishers opted to release their titles on both platforms, and there's no reason to think that the same won't hold true for Death Stranding on the PS4 and PS5.

Plus, Death Stranding looks like it's very far along in development. It's true that we just got our first look at actual gameplay last month, but the game has been in development for years, and should be wrapping up within the next couple. Considering all the work that has been done to bring Death Stranding to the PS4, it seems highly unlikely that Sony would allow the game to miss the console entirely.

Of course, it's possible Pachter's prediction is off-base, and Death Stranding will release in 2019 as a PS4 exclusive, and won't be available on the PS5. Looking at the big picture, there's still very little we actually know about the game, and so it could go either way at this point.

Death Stranding is in development for PlayStation 4.
