‘Dead Space 3′ Screenshots Highlight Co-op & Dual Wielding

 by

Earlier this week, EA began teasing Dead Space 3 with a graphic novel trailer. Now, just a few days before E3, screenshots of the upcoming horror game have been leaked – and they include new character John Carver.

Both Carver and series protagonist Issac Clarke are at the center of these screenshots, seen fighting side-by-side and confirming the presence of coop in Dead Space 3. Initial speculation pointed to Issac being joined by a second character, though at the time it was thought to be a “Shadow Issac” and not John Carver.

Issac won’t just be fighting necromorphs though, as one of the screenshots depicts him and Carver shooting at a human enemy . The initial coop rumors suggested that Issac will have more maneuverability, better enabling long range firefights – including the ability to roll around Gears of War-style.

The dual wielding of weapons also makes an appearance, but judging by the screenshot it may not be “traditional” dual wielding. Issac is seen holding two weapons, both with their ammo counters displayed, however, his hand is positioned in a peculiar way. Judging by the way Issac is holding the right hand gun, it doesn’t look like he would be able to fire it in an effective manner. Perhaps Issac will be able to carry two weapon like in Max Payne 3, holding the larger rifle in his free hand and using the other for small-arms combat.

Needless to say, Dead Space fans may feel mixed about that changes. While the series was more “action-horror,” Dead Space 3 looks to be foregoing horror aspect. Dual-wielding, coop, and combat rolls are the trademarks of an action game, and it’s certainly distressing for those who loved the balance the series has achieved. Of course, it’s still very early to be judging the game – we still haven’t seen any real gameplay – let’s just hope Dead Space 3 retains the horror elements that made the series so enjoyable.

  1. I hope they don’t miss this up. I’m a huge fan and would be very disappointed if they did. Coop would have been fine, but I’m not so sure to the other changes.

    • it’s alright, they won’t screw it up, Visceral knows what they are doing, they won’t screw it up…besides alot of these supposed changes are only rumor

  2. have you guys seen the trailer for injustice? its a new fighting game based on dc comics from mthe creators of mortal kombat.
ive still yet to play dead space and i just bought them very recently so i hop they are good.

  3. No human enemies!!!!

Not seeing the humans in Dead Space 2 was scary. I remember when you had to sneak around the armed security guards at the end was the creepiest part, especially because it was dark.

Please, God, let them not screw it up.

    • human enemies would make sense, Isaac Clarke is one of earthgov’s most wanted, at the end of dead space 2 he killed Tiedeman and destroyed the entire Titan Station, so surely Earthgov is searching for him even more now

      • Yeah, you’re right. It does make more sense. I just think they should stick to the old-school rules of horror. Remember movies like the original Friday 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Alien, or even Final Destination?
The scariest enemy you can fight is one you can’t see! They don’t need to forget that.

        • yeah, that’s why the scariest things in Dead Space 1 and 2 were Isaac’s hallucinations, so long as those are returning, I’m good as far as horror. I am quite curious to see how this Carver guy will react to Isaac’s bat-s*** craziness. The first time Isaac talks to his hallucination and tries to kill himself, Carver will probably freak out, lmao

      • SPOILER ALERT SIR! I’M ONLY ON CHAPTER 6! D:

        • sorry about that, hope I didn’t spoil much. How ya likin’ it so far? I loved it, Zealot mode was bitch and a half.

          • Na, I can;t remember what you wrote already and I’m trying my best not to skim over your comment again (no offense xD) and I love the game, just as scary as the first, and the multiplayer rocks!

  4. Holy s***! Is that Isaac with a beard?!?! EPIC!

  5. I’m not so sure about “more maneuverability”. I like the movement in 1 and 2. Not being able to hop around like a five year old kid added to the survival aspect.

    • yeah I’m a bit hesitant on this whole “more maneuverability” perhaps it won’t be all bad though, Resident Evil 6 is doing the same thing, I don’t know we’ll just have to wait til’ e3 to see more

  6. I might be talking of the wrong screen shot, but it doesn’t look like he is dual wielding at all. Looks more like he is holding a rifle with an under barrel grenade-launcher or some type of under barrel weapon. Might be some type of weird dual-wield, but it looks a lot more like an under-barrel attachment.

    • yeah I think your right, his partner is a soldier with earthgov, so an underbarrel attachment would make sense, for like the assualt rifle

  7. WIN

  8. I am worried. Very worried.

  9. Never Liked Dead Space.Never Scared me and way too repetitive.

    • Then don’t bother clicking on the link to the article if you don’t like it. But if you’d rather troll, then be my guest.

  10. look at it this way change might be a good thing here. the next game wouldnt be vary scary or interesting if you just do the exact same stuff you did in the last games. Also to follow the story the gameplay needs to shift somewhat into a more open combat game than just survival horror. Issac has to hunt down and destroy the markers, and there is just no way he can do that by himself so at some point he needs to gather some sort of team and/or the earthgov is going to get involved and send in the military. So eventually this whole thing might evolve into a sudo 3rd person combat shooter. which if you think about it is an interesting idea, a survival horror morphing into a different genre. No series I know of has done that. Also it would make it easier for others who want to play but have trouble playing horror games.
