Dead Space 3 Weapon Crafting Glitch

When in the midst of a PR nightmare sometimes it's best to hope everything just works itself out. Case in point: Dead Space 3 and its weapon crafting system.

While gamers were up in arms over the weapon crafting system supporting micro transactions — seemingly to offer a leg up in the game early — a solution has been found that lets gamers farm crafting resources. It appeared to be a glitch and not necessarily an intentional scenario, so gamers began farming those precious gun-crafting resources as fast as they could.

As it turns out, though, the resource farming ability is not a glitch. Electronic Arts, publisher for Dead Space 3, issued a statement to confirm this fact:

"The resource-earning mechanic in Dead Space 3 is not a glitch. We have no plans to issue a patch to change this aspect of the game. We encourage players to explore the game and discover the areas where resources respawn for free. We've deliberately designed Dead Space 3 to allow players to harvest resources by playing through the game."

It's unclear whether the resource farming ability is, in fact, a glitch or not, but EA and Visceral Games' inaction shows they might sympathize with gamers. Obviously, they want Dead Space 3 to sell well, as evidenced by the inclusion of co-op and more action-heavy focus, but talk of micro transactions can oftentimes be a deterrent.

To take advantage of the glitch, all gamers need to do is load up chapter 8 of game and follow the path outlined in the video below (courtesy of Game Front). When exiting and re-entering the specific room, the resource containing within reloads. Yes, it can be time-consuming to repeat the process ad nauseam, but it beats spending money on a better weapon.

So rather than let the situation play out as is, a miracle solution swooped in and fixed the problem for EA. Gamers that find areas where resources constantly spawn can bypass the need for micro transactions, but those that want to can still spend a little cash (between $1 and $3) for a slight advantage.

For a brief taste of Dead Space 3 make sure to check out our first impressions and gameplay video post. Unfortunately, those early moments in the game did not show off the weapon crafting system.

Are you happy that EA won't be patching out the weapon resource farming glitch? Do you think the glitch was intentional?

Dead Space 3 is out now for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
