Despite getting off to a rocky start, Sony Online Entertainment’s caped crusader MMO DC Universe Online has turned out to be a major success. It turns out that not only do gamers want to get a chance to fight alongside Superman, they want to do so immediately.

SOE president John Smedley, on his twitter account, alerted any would-be-purchasers of DC Universe that though the game is currently available only in limited quantities, more are on the way. As a side note, he also thought fit to reveal the game’s success as it relates to the company.

"Working on out-of-stock problems for DCUO. It's out [sic] fastest selling game ever. Should have more inventory in Monday."

Also has part of his twitter announcements, Smedley proclaimed that DC Universe was also number one in sales on Steam last week. The stock shortages and sales success on steam Steam make clear that DC Universe Online, despite generating some unfavorable impressions, has really struck a chord with a large number of gamers.

Speaking on the topic of getting off to a rough start, SOE came out to calm any gamers’ fears that DC Universe’s experience would remain as problematic as it has been out of the gate, saying that they are working to make the game more stable and more user friendly. Furthermore, they are also working on eliminating the profanity filter, but that will come at a later date.  Tony Jones, SOE’s Community Relations Manager, detailed just how dedicated the team is to their fan base.

"Right now, we're working on server stability, things that keep the game running and going fresh. Things like the UI, they're going to be constantly making tweaks to that - the best part of an MMO, it changes constantly and we're very sensitive to the needs of the players. I'm following threads, bringing it to the attention [of people] and saying, 'Hey, they don't like how this works, how that works.' We're not going to be satisfied until we bring the best product that we can to the player and get the best play experience possible."

Still in its relative infancy, DC Universe Online has plenty of time to evolve into the MMO experience it is meant to be. With very little competition on the PS3 at the moment, and a developer that is devoted to improving the experience — listening to fan feedback and prioritizing solutions — DC Universe owners can rest assured that when their 30-day subscription needs to be renewed, they can gladly decide to continue playing.

Any gamers out there who picked up DC Universe Online seeing any improvements being made to the game? Besides the issues addressed by Jones, what other areas do you think need improving in the game?

DC Universe Online is available now for the PS3 and PC.
