‘Darksiders 2′ Storyline and New Gameplay Features Detailed

Darksiders 2 First Details

Though it was considered an underground hit for those gamers who gave it a chance, Darksiders didn’t necessary deliver the breakout numbers industry analysts expected. Sill, based on the popularity of the first title with those who gave it a whirl, Vigil Games went forward with development on Darksiders 2, and now first details have popped up regarding the game.

Picking up soon after the end of the first game, players – now in control of a new Horseman, Death – will work their way through the world of the Abyss. Boasting a larger world, full weapon and armor upgrades, and a new loot system, Darksiders 2 promises to be a vast improvement over its predecessor.

This, of course, isn’t the first time that a Darksiders sequel has been teased, but with first details popping up, it makes it all the more real. The game’s storyline – the four Horseman of the apocalypse fighting to restore humanity – is a very interesting concept, and one that fans of the first game were dying to see continue.

It is unfortunate that the first game’s protagonist War will take a back seat to Death, but Darksiders‘ primary focus was the weapons, each of which outdid the next in usefulness and creativity.

As Game Informer’s cover story, there are plenty of details still to come, with these hints of a loot system and storyline being the first. The magazine is set to hit newsstands early next week (conveniently during E3 2011), so fans of Darksiders who are looking to hear more on the sequel should definitely pick up a copy.

If you are intrigued by the game’s concept, but have yet to check out Darksiders, we highly recommend you do. Playing much like an HD version of Legend of Zelda, Darksiders offered the traditional self-contained dungeon levels gamers love, but combined it with much more active melee combat.

Stick tuned to Game Rant for more Darksiders 2 details in the coming weeks.

Are you interested in returning to the role of a Horseman for Darksiders 2? How would you like to see the sequel improve upon its predecessor?

  1. This game was surprisingly good. Certain aspects of the game play reminded me of the old Zelda games, with the dungeon levels and how you acquire a new skill or weapon in each dungeon. I am looking forward to this.

  2. I loved Darksiders. It is rare that I will play any game a second time through. I’m playing Darksiders through for the third time now.

I really don’t know why anyone would deny themselves playing the first one. The story was pretty good. The characters were VERY well done. The graphics were VERY clean and really awe-inspiring. (In that apocalyptic, doom-ish way.) The combat was plenty of fun! (Even on horseback!) The boss fights were classic and kept you going! The weapons were pretty good… And WAR is a BAD MOFO.

    What’s NOT to love?

I’m definitely looking forward to the next one. Although… I’m a little beside myself that I won’t be able to play as WAR this time.

But I have to admit… Once I look past that for a moment, DEATH looks pretty convincing in that photo! :)

I don’t see them being able to work Famine or Pestilence into the mix in any sequels, though. I mean… Really. What am I going to do? STARVE my enemies to death? LOL!

    • Hmm… Just picked up on some info out there on Google and apparently the other two are “Fury” and “Strife”?

Interesting… No mention of ‘Pesty’ or Famine. :P

      • they changed the names while making the first game to make them sound more BA.

      • I always found it interesting that. when used in entertainment venues, they make War the 1st horsemen, and replace one of the horsemen with Pestilience. In their original biblical context, War is the 2nd rider, famine the 3rd, and the 4th is Death, with the 1st being a conquering king-like figure on a white horse, often referred to as Conquest and generally suppossed to represent the Antichrist. Since in his biblical description, Death has dominion over plagues, Pestilience and Death are actually one and the same, though thpugh usually get split and treated as two different horsemen with the first rider, Conquest, being left out entirely; this is probably due to the fact that people utilizing the concept of the 4 horsemen dont want to have to deal with the whole Antichrist thing, or dont know how to address it in a way that makes sense… Anyways, I’ve just always found that interesting

        • Death was always my favorite, though, so im stoked to see him in this sequel

    • For those of you who never gave the first game a chance…

LOOK at these pictures and honestly tell me that this game doesn’t look bad-arse. Seriously.

  3. Spoiler for those that haven’t played…

I was a little confused about the story in the second game. I heard the events of this game happen along side the first. I don’t understand that because at the end of the first you see the other three horsemen coming down. They were not on earth so how could these event happen at the same time?

Now this article says it happens right after the first game. So which is it?

  4. The story of this Darksiders runs parallel to the first game in that Death is out to save his brother from his end. Events in the game will eventually lead up to what we see at the end of first, probably due to Death needing the help from the rest of the horsemen to save War, meaning he will need to return to where ever the horsemen are located, then return to Earth.
