Darksiders 2 Announcement Trailer

Following quickly on the heels of an official announcement that Darksiders 2 is in fact in development comes a new trailer for the game that gives a quick summation of the story thus far and a brief introduction of the new main character.

Running concurrent to the events of the first game, Darksiders 2 sees the second Horseman of the Apocalypse, Death venturing through the world of the Abyss in an effort to clear his brother’s name.

Though Death is clearly a different style of Horseman, both the levels and gameplay mechanics seem to fall in line with those seen in the first Darksiders. Also seen in the trailer, and very much a trademark of the series thus far, are some of the new weapons that Death will be wielding. As Death ventures through various dungeons he, like his brother, will encounter weapons that will be most useful in that particular area (think Legend of Zelda).

But that isn’t all that is new in Darksiders 2, as Death will be encountering a new band of scheming characters many of whom are under the impression Death’s brother War preemptively started the Apocalypse, and thus in direct opposition to Death.

Even though the first Darksiders went a bit unnoticed, the hope is that with this sequel a wider segment of gamers will see the title’s unique appeal. Featuring a seamless blend of puzzle and dungeon-crawling segments – with major action set pieces to top it all off – Darksiders is a hidden gem well worth checking out.

We’ll know more about the title, including getting perhaps getting some hands-on time with the title, during this year’s E3, so check back with Game Rant next week. For now, go out and pick yourself up a copy of Darksiders.

How do you hope to see Darksiders 2, and Death’s storyline, set itself apart from the first game? What mechanics inherent to this Horseman would you like to see in the game?

Darksiders 2 is set to release some time next year on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

  1. they need to fix the difficulty of dungeons, all i remember is being stuck at the beginning with the 3 venus flytrap things, and the end where you have to go through 3 chambers (the angles sanctuary), both where excruciatingly annoying to figure out (i needed ot look them up on the net to find out how to go around them) yet every other puzzle was relatively easy. same goes for the boss fights, the 1st boss was alot harder then the final boss, which should have need a pain tin the rear end, but ended up being a button mash to success, where as the 1st one involved strict timing and precision to beat.

like i said before: this is under my ‘get if cheap’ list.

  2. I would like to see some more passive, sophisticated, countering-based combat. Also, some more complex platforming. I saw War as a Kratos-like character, specializing in all out combat, but Death seems like more of a Prince of Persia.

  3. I beat the first game. the story line and cinematics ,characters. all were awesome.. but! I saw at the end when the 7′th seal was broken that the 3 hoursemen rode. how are they gonna tie that in with death kicking butt already?
