[Update: Keep it up! The petition to get Dark Souls on PC has caught the attention of Namco execs!]

From Software's Dark Souls has the reputation of being one the most brutal games this generation, but alas, its unforgiving nature is something that PC gamers were never able to experience. Dark Souls fans however, are looking to change that as many are signing a petition to convince Namco to bring the game over to the PC.

A representative from Namco responded to a user on their official forums, essentially claiming that a PC port of the Action-RPG is possible, the only thing standing in their way is the level of demand for it.

Namco has since dismissed these claims as nothing more than a rumor, and have not stated whether or not they have interest in a PC version of the title. But that hasn't stopped PC gamers...

"There is always possibilities to have games adapted on PC and the good news is that Dark Souls is not a 100% typical Console game so the adaptation is possible. Now to make things happen, let's say the demand has to be properly done. someone to make a successful petition?"

Namco employee and forum administrator Shoupinou stated on the forums that one way fans could show demand for a PC version of Dark Souls is to make a petition, and some passionate players have taken him up on the suggestion. PC gamers hoping to see Dark Souls come to their platform of choice have created a petition to garner support and as of the time of this writing, more than 9000 people have signed it. While these types of things don't always work out, it will still help to show Namco that their is an audience on the PC.

Unlike Dark Souls' predecessor, Demon's Souls, there is actually a chance for the title to land on the PC. Demon's Souls was a PS3 exclusive due to Sony holding rights to the game, but now that Dark Souls is published by a third party there shouldn't be much of an issue bringing the game to the PC. If Namco is not sure of the financial risk, they could always do what D3 did for Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon and release the PC version exclusively on Steam.

In any case, we hope to see Namco change their minds and publish a PC version. We thought Dark Souls was a great game and one of the best RPGs of the year - giving it a chance to reach a bigger audience would surely be a good thing, I know people that would have loved to play Dark Souls/Demon's Souls without forking out the cash for a console, and now they may just get their chance.

Dark Souls is available now for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
