Twitch streamer Distortion2 manages to beat Dark Souls 3 in just over one hour's time, setting a new speedrun world record for From Software's challenging game.

Few would disagree with the notion that Dark Souls III is an especially difficult game. It could even be the hardest game in the series to date, with bosses like Pontiff Sulyvahn and the Namless King the source of headaches for players the world over. Considering this, the fact that Twitch streamer Distortion2 has managed to beat the entire game in a little over one hour is all the more impressive.

Distortion2's incredible speedrun of Dark Souls III clocked in at 1:08:38, and garnered the attention of a couple of thousand Twitch viewers in the process. With Distortion2 beating Dark Souls III in just over an hour's time, he has managed to set a new speedrun world record for the game.

The speedrun world record for Dark Souls III was previously held by a player named Jung Ho Min. Jung Ho Min beat Dark Souls III in about two hours, so Distortion2 was able to raise the bar quite a bit with his speedrun. What makes Distortion2's incredible speedrun even more impressive is the fact that he also managed to fight all of Dark Souls III's optional bosses as well. That means if anyone wants to top his time, they will need to tackle some brutal boss fights that can derail a great speedrun time instantly.

It seems as though the ultra-difficult reputation that the franchise has is what draws players to completing the games under extreme circumstances like this. Past Dark Souls games had plenty of players attempting to conquer their challenges as fast as possible, and the result has been a stiff competition between fans of the series to be the best. Since we're only a few weeks removed from Dark Souls III's launch, expect to see many other players attempt to beat Distortion2's world record in the coming months.

Besides speedruns, fans of the Dark Souls series have been even more creative when it comes to beating the games under extreme circumstances. For example, one player beat Dark Souls with a Rock Band guitar, and another beat it using only his voice. All things considered, it will be interesting to see what clever ways players come up with to beat Dark Souls III in the future.

Dark Souls III should prove to be a popular game among Twitch streamers and gaming masochists moving forward. Distortion2's Dark Souls III speedrun is very impressive, and proves that with enough skill and determination, anyone can master From Software's ultra-difficult Dark Souls franchise.

Dark Souls III is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
