From Software's Dark Souls 3 is a massive game with many complicated gameplay interactions, but some players might not be aware of the its many secrets.

Dark Souls 3 isn't just a game that brutally beats down its players and somehow charms them into coming back for more. From Software's newest, and apparently last, entry into the Souls series also features some of the deepest, nuanced gameplay available in the industry today. While that kind of depth is definitely one of the most appealing elements present in Dark Souls 3, it has also led to a lot more questions than answers when it comes to smaller interactions between the player and their environment.

Although these questions are often easily answered by simply going through whatever interactions gamers are curious about, the process can be time consuming, and backtracking in a game that can punish or kill a player outright at any given moment can be a daunting task. Luckily, Dark Souls 3 player DefendTheHouse has begun a YouTube series that takes fan questions regarding the more minor interactions within the game, as seen below.

The video first explores whether or not gamers can use the Young White Branch to sneak past enemies. The Young White Branch is an item which allows player characters to disguise themselves as part of whichever environment they find themselves in, although that disguise is always an immobile object. Because it's Dark Souls 3 and thus any easy way out simply wouldn't be allowed, the disguise does work, but only to a certain extent - as long as an enemy does not see a player move while they are in disguise, a player can successfully sneak around using the Young White Branch.

The video also details more practical tips and tricks, like how gamers can use the Quickstep ability to traverse swamp areas much more quickly than simply trudging through them would allow for. Although this advice might seem obvious to veterans of the Souls series, Dark Souls 3 broke sales records for the franchise and so it's reasonable to expect the influx of new players might appreciate the kind of demonstrations DefendTheHouse's video provides.

Of course, players need more than just a few handy tips to defeat the incredibly difficult fights that From Software has prepared for Souls fans in the newest entries. There's a reason there are so many Dark Souls 3 guides readily available to gamers, and that trend is likely to continue, as the positive reception for Dark Souls 3 makes it likely that even more new players pick up the game in the future. Here's hoping that DefendTheHouse continues the mythbusting series for a long time - we'll take every edge we can get in games as difficult as Dark Souls 3.
