There's no doubt that fans of Crytek's FPS hit Crysis are itching for the series' third installment. Both fans and newcomers alike will be able to get their hands on Crytek's latest when Crysis 3 launches on February 19th, 2013.

European players can pick up Crysis 3 just a few days later, as it launches February 21st, 2013, across that region. Just be sure to check the game's system requirements to make sure your PC can run it - they're pretty demanding!

Accompanying the game's release date is news is of a partnership with filmmaker Albert Hughes (The Book of Eli). Hughes will be directing a series of videos titles, The 7 Wonders of Crysis 3, that show off the power of CryENGINE 3. Hughes is quite excited to work on the series, stating that "the challenge of producing something intensely human without ever seeing a human on screen was incredibly compelling." Hughes credits Crytek's CryENGINE with giving him the ability to complete his task. You can check out a teaser trailer for the series below.

Readers can look forward to the series debut, Hell of a Town, on December 12th, 2012. The series will not only showcase the the awe-inducing graphics of Crysis 3, but introduce new gameplay mechanics and enemies as well. It should be something Crysis fans will look forward to.

What's most interesting about The 7 Wonders of Crysis 3 is the application of the game's engine. Yes, the video series is essentially a trailer for Crysis 3, but it's also a piece of film. That Electronic Arts is bringing in a renowned filmmaker to direct this speaks volumes about how far game technology has progressed. Perhaps in the future we will start to see filmmakers like Hughes use game engines for more than just games, applying them to other mediums such as theatrical films or music videos.

A perfect example of this is Valve's Source filmmaker, which allows users to create films with the Source engine. The CryENGINE 3 SDK is available as a free download, so perhaps we'll start to see it and other engines applied to more than just games in the near future.

Crysis 3 releases February 19th, 2013, on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
