When Crysis was first released, it quickly claimed a legacy for its graphical prowess. With Crysis 3, developer Crytek is looking to keep that legacy, as they've revealed some rather demanding PC specs.
To start things off, minimum requirements for the game include a 1GB GPU. To put that into perspective, most new releases usually only require 1GB of VRAM for "recommended" setting. Users will also need at least a dual core CPU and 2GB of memory (3GB if you're a Vista user).
Want to play Crysis 3 on max settings? Well, then you're going to need a pretty impressive rig. Examples given by Crytek include an i7-2600 CPU and GTX 680 graphics card. The game also supports DirectX 11 out of the box, unlike its predecessor, which had to be patched to include the software.

- 8GB Memory
- Nvidia/Intel example setup: Nvidia GTX 680, Intel Core i7-2600k or AMD example setup: AMD Radeon HD7970, AMD Bulldozer FX4150
As readers will notice, Crysis 3 does not support Windows XP. This is because it uses DirectX 11, which is only compliant with Vista and later operating systems. Many AAA PC developers have begun to move away from XP, with Black Ops 2 developer Treyarch being another key team phasing out XP.
With PC specific games such as Battlefield 4 and Metro: Last Light on the horizon, it'll be interesting to see how many other developers begin to phase out XP. It'd be hard to imagine the indie scene ignoring XP users, as most indie titles aren't so demanding that they require a 1GB video card just to play the game! Though if Crysis 3 is any indication, it's that XP's days are numbered. And with developers not too happy with Windows 8, it'll definitely be interesting to see where PC development goes moving forward.
But hot damn is Crysis 3 going to look pretty.
