Crysis 3 gameplay trailer

Electronic Arts never hid the fact they planned to grow the Crysis franchise after its sequel hit last year and so when Crysis 3 popped up on Origin's pre-order page two weeks ago, it wasn't at all surprising. EA and developer Crytek quickly confirmed the game, describing its plot, sharing screenshots and teasing and upcoming gameplay trailer.

Today the first full Crysis 3 gameplay trailer is out, and as always, Crytek continues to demonstrate their masterful handling of graphics and visuals. EA has got a strong one-two first-person shooter punch with DICE and their Frostbite 2 and now Crytek with their latest CryENGINE.

Players preferring the open, lush daytime jungle aesthetic and enemy human combatants of the first Crysis over that of the Urban alien-focused sequel, then this trailer may be another step away from the original. Crytek is making up for it by adding a variety of new weapons and making the game look simply incredible, pushing the limits of the PS3 and Xbox 360:

Give a warm welcome back to Prophet, his nanosuit and killing skills:

The majority of gameplay demonstrated seem to cover only one area/mission of the game, in a secluded jungle area at night against one large group of Ceph forces. With the game not coming for another year, except plenty of additional trailers and reveals, along with a large presence at E3 2012 this summer.

Crysis 2 offered stellar visuals and slick gameplay, but its story was lacking and its enclosed environments became repetitive. Will a quickly-developed sequel rectify that? Will the story surrounding the characters and abilities of the iconic nanosuit make sense after pulling some odd story twists in Crysis 2?

Revenge is a simpler and often more gratifying tale - Official Crysis 3 synopsis:

Set in 2047, Prophet is on a revenge mission after uncovering the truth behind Cell Corporation’s motives for building the quarantined Nanodomes. The citizens were told that the giant citywide structures were resurrected to protect the population and to cleanse these metropolises of the remnants of Ceph forces. In reality, the Nanodomes are CELL’s covert attempt at a land and technology grab in their quest for global domination. With Alien Ceph lurking around every corner and human enemies on the attack, nobody is safe in the path of vengeance. Everyone is a target in Prophet’s quest for retribution.
