Crysis 3 7 Wonders Gameplay Trailers Achievements

It hasn't been the best week for futuristic extraterrestiral-hunting first-person shooters (see: Aliens: Colonial Marines) nor, for that matter, Electronic Arts-published first-person shooters (see: the continuing fallout from Medal of Honor's cancellation). But as a conflation of the two, Crysis 3 -- one of our most anticipated games of 2013 -- looks to reverse the trend when it releases next week, on February 19, carrying the high expectations of Crytek's venerable franchise and the high-grade technology of CryEngine 3.

Naturally, a narrowing margin of waiting time means a widening breadth of content to get fans ready. Today we're recapping the penultimate and final installments of Crytek's in-depth video series, "The 7 Wonders of Crysis 3"; a recently released gameplay trailer chronicling the many (and extensively customizable) combat options available to Prophet, our Nanosuit-clad protagonist; and the official Crysis 3 achievements list.

A shield against enemy weapons, a fount for strength and speed, a cloak for chameleonic  camouflage, Prophet's nanosuit has always been elementary to the Crysis formula. Its robust array of customizable abilities -- rivaling most first-person shooters on the market -- helped bring a steady following to the series between 2007's Crysis and 2011's Crysis 2. (That, and the premise of state-of-the-art visuals on the PC.) With Crysis 3 tossing Prophet into the rainforesty recesses of a domed and overgrown New York City, combat looks to provide for an even greater mix of predatory, tactical stealth and brash, frenetic brute force. The final two episodes of Crytek's "The Seven Wonders of Crysis 3," conveniently, show us how Prophet is outfitted for both.

Episode 5, "The Perfect Weapon," demonstrates the full power of Prophet's nanosuit while yesterday's Episode 6, "The End of Days," explores how strategy, anticipation and assessing the battlefield can reward players who take a more calculated approach.

A more cinematic spectacle is made in "The Hunt is On," the latest official gameplay trailer released for Crysis 3, set to the ferocious tempo of Muse's "Liquid State." From crossbows to sniper rifles to rocket launchers, from shooting down deadly aerial vehicles to piloting them, we get a fast-cutting glimpse of Crysis 3 in action. We also get a feel for the new narrative: Prophet, awaking from a 24-year cryo-slumber, discovering that things aren't quite as they used to be (aside from, you know, New York City's quarantine and apparent lack of a landscaping budget, that is) -- that world is on the brink of annihilation and that C.E.L.L. corporation is involved in a malicious plot for global domination, posing just as great a threat to liberty and prosperity as the invading outer-world Cephs. The hunt is on indeed. And the prey are many.

Be sure to continue on to the next page for the Crysis 3 achievements list. Totaling up to 50 achievements, it cuts a pretty broad swath across single- and multiplayer objectives while, thankfully, not surrendering any spoilers. We do, however, get plenty of witty references: Arrow to the Knee, for instance, awards 20 points for, you guessed it, "ending an enemy's career as a CELL operative by wounding him in the knee with an arrow!"

The list comes courtesy of Xbox360Achievments, but expect the PS3 trophies to be a carbon copy.
