Those who have continued to play Counter-Strike throughout their gaming life time will know that the game has more than its fair share of available mods - to add some spice to the regular gameplay. One of the most popular mods to be played currently is the aptly named, "Gun Game" (no association with the Black Ops version), but it does have an awful lot of similarities.

Valve will be including the mod, renaming it "Arsenal Mode" in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Of course, those who want to retain the purity in their Counter-Strike: Global Offensive experience can do so and stick to the hostage rescue/bomb defuse gameplay, but those who want to spice it up a tiny bit can jump into either Arsenal: Arms Race or Arsenal: Demolition. Arms Race will be the Gun Game people might be familiar with - where players start off with a Glock pistol and each successive kill bumps them up one weapon until all the player is left with is a knife. As for Arsenal: Demolition, there's no descriptor available for it yet, but there's a high probability that explosives will be involved.

Arsenal Mode will also add eight more maps to the current CS:GO maps that are already available. So anyone who was worried about not having arena variety can relax.

Valve is also working with Michael Barr, the creator of the Gun Game mod for Counter-Strike: Source to help bring the mod to consoles and ensure it's the best version. Definitely some points in Valve's corner for involving the various people in the CS community to work on the game. Finally, below are some new screenshots of CS:GO.

If that wasn't enough for you, the first screenshots from PAX Prime 2011 showing off CS:GO are also available for your perusal - and might start motivating you to step up your CS game a little bit. You can also read up on the first available details for CS:GO and see what Valve's been doing to revamp the gameplay. Lastly, depending on your personal preference, you may want to invest in the PlayStation 3 version of CS:GO over the Xbox 360 version for a few reasons (i.e. cross platform play).

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be releasing in Q1 2012 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
