Though Super Mario Galaxy 2 is mere weeks away from release, news about the game has been surprisingly sparce. Until now! Suddenly, Galaxy 2 news is busting out from all quarters, and your friends here at Game Rant are going to make sure that you're kept up to date.

First, we have the news that Super Mario Galaxy 2 does indeed support some sort of co-op. Nintendo Japan has launched a New Super Mario Galaxy 2 section on their website, featuing several new screenshots. Among them is this little gem that clearly shows two players co-operating in the game:

So, will this play out like the "assist" mode in the first Mario Galaxy? The presence of an on-screen character seems to suggest it might be something more. For now, Nintendo isn't talking.

Also new to Galaxy 2 is Cloud Mario. That's right, Cloud Mario. So, can Mario walk on clouds now? That seems to make sense, but we've yet to see this suit in action. Have a look:

Just to run them down, so far we've seen Rock Mario, Light Yoshi, Dash Yoshi and Blimp Yoshi in Galaxy 2. Now we know about Cloud Mario, and two player co-op. What else could be hiding on that shiny little disc? Sonic?

The question here isn't, "are you excited for Super Mario Galaxy 2?" No, the question is, "HOW excited are you for Super Mario Galaxy 2?" What else would you like to see in the game?

Super Mario Galaxy 2 comes down to Earth May 23rd, 2010, exclusively on the Nintendo Wii.
