In a true battle for the ages, late night host Conan O'Brien takes on featherweight champion Conor McGregor in UFC 2 for the latest episode of Clueless Gamer.

Conan O'Brien has faced off with some huge stars in his Clueless Gamer series, but it's rare that the game and the guest line up quite as nicely as in the latest installment. This time around, the late night host plays UFC 2 with reigning featherweight champion and the game's cover star Conor McGregor.

Set to release in a few short days, EA's sequel to its inaugural UFC title from 2014 looks set to build upon the foundation laid by games like UFC Undisputed and the publisher's sole MMA title from 2010. Who better to put the game through its paces than a fighter sitting on a 19–3 record.

"I like you Conan," Connor says as the two sit down to get into the game. "But I'm going to whoop your ass." The 27-year-old Irishman has become well known for his trash talk at UFC press conferences, so there's little surprise that his behaviour carries over to the digital octagon.

After a brief staredown, the pair get into the game. McGregor is obviously on the game's standard roster, but a custom character allows O'Brien to play as himself, too — and the likeness is actually rather uncanny, even if it's just a touch unrealistic that both men have such similar stats.

Once both men step into the arena, things turn nasty quick. McGregor goes on the offensive from the bell, with O'Brien only too willing to back off. Soon, the champion takes down the challenger with a well-placed flurry and follows it up with mounted punches.

Subsequent matches end similarly poorly for the host, despite getting in the occasional good hit on McGregor — and despite suffering his first UFC loss just a few days ago, he's still utterly dominant in-game. Post-match decisions largely present O'Brien daubed in cuts and bruises thanks to the effective offence of his opponent.

The remarkable visuals on offer in UFC 2 make this as close as we're ever likely to get to seeing McGregor fight O'Brien in the real-world octagon. It's certainly a strange sight to see two highly accurate digital celebrities engaging in such a vivid brawl while their human equivalents sit in a hotel room button mashing.

Clueless Gamer continues to be a hugely entertaining look at new releases — but you would think that Conan would get a little bit better at playing video games given the length of time this series has gone on for.

UFC 2 is set to release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 15, 2016.
