Command Conquer Generals 2 Trailer VGAs

We've been waiting a while to know exactly what 'new IP' BioWare was preparing to bring to the gaming world, and at tonight's Spike Video Game Awards, our question was answered. The next game from BioWare is official, now announced as Command & Conquer: Generals 2.

The first images of Command & Conquer: Generals 2 showed some explosive and dusty atmosphere, but that didn't help us narrow the possibly games any. We had reasons to suspect that the so-called 'new IP' would in fact not be all that new, but a revival of a series that had already established itself. Given the recent success the studio has had, there are surely several properties that would benefit from their take, specifically Command & Conquer: Alliances.

At tonight's award show the mystery was solved, with the game given a name and trailer to boot. The series will be Command & Conquer, but not the sequel we had expected. Have a look at the official announcement trailer now:

It's a little too early to explore whether or not BioWare is the right team to handle this 'reboot', but a studio as large as theirs certainly encompasses a varied enough development team to do just about any genre justice. The team is already integrating multiplayer into their most established singleplayer experience with Mass Effect, so the emphasis on all-out carnage in the trailer makes sense.

What do you think of the announcement? Is this the kind of game you want to see BioWare handling, or were you hoping for a different reveal? has an announced release date of , for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
