Nintendo confirms that Cloud, Bayonetta, and Corrin will all get amiibo toys, while announcing a release date for the previously revealed Ryu and Roy statues.

At this point in time, fans of Super Smash Bros. are either unbelievably excited or mildly disappointed by the reveals of Bayonetta and Fire Emblem's Corrin. Whatever the stance is from individuals in the community, Nintendo was sure to follow up on these reveals by confirming that both of the aforementioned characters – plus Final Fantasy 7's newcomer Cloud Strife – will be receiving their very own amiibo figures at some point in 2016.

Not to get too ahead of itself, however, the Big N also confirmed release dates for the amiibo of existing downloadable Super Smash Bros. fighters Ryu and Roy. With the final batch of Smash add-ons set to arrive on Wii U and 3DS in February, it was announced that Roy and Ryu toys (with the addition of a Famicon-styled R.O.B.) will be hitting stores in North America on March 18, 2016. It should also be noted that retailer-exclusives weren't confirmed during this Direct, but that it's a very likely possibility given the trend fans have seen with amiibo thus far.

What's odd about this announcement is that the long-awaited Lucas amiibo managed to slip under the radar, and is still currently sans release date. While Ninty is sure to rectify that issue sooner rather than later, there's still no news on when fans can expect the other waves of collectibles. Still, with these final mascots set to cap off the entire Super Smash Bros. line of the toys-to-life figures, fans are sure to anticipate the wait.

Now that rumors are circulating about a potential amiibo-only game headed to both Wii U and 3DS, it's the best time to try to get as many of the toys out on the market as humanly possible. If these reports turn out to be true, then there's a strong possibility that most (if not all) will be made compatible with this unannounced title – that is, of course, assuming that it turns out to be the real McCoy.

Sadly, there's still a wait for fans to get their hands on the final pair of downloadable fighters for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS. That said, those itching to see Cloud mingle with the likes of Link and Mario are able to witness just that right now, as the challenger is now available for purchase across both versions of the game. Suffice it to say, it's certainly been an eventful evening for Nintendo fans.
