While there are a number of entries in the franchise to go back to and enjoy, Silent Hill is still a melancholic topic for a lot of gamers. With the unfortunate loss of Kojima's P.T., which would have led to a new game in the celebrated horror series, fans have been left wondering for many years whether they'll see the return of the titular foggy town. Currently, there's no word on whether a new game is happening or not, but it looks as though the classics may be coming to Steam at some point.

As spotted by Rely on Horror, Konami has released a brief trailer to its Instagram that montages select titles from its back catalog of releases. The accompanying message announces that 23 games and 18 DLC will be coming to Steam, though no date is given. While there's no clip of Silent Hill in the video itself, it is featured in the list of other hashtags in the description. This implies that the horror titles are to be included in this roster of games that will be available on Steam. The fact that Konami itself is saying it does suggest this could be real. In which case, it's definitely worth keeping an eye on things to see how the story develops.

No doubt fans of the series will be excited to finally be able to play the classics through Valve's platform. Of course, what most would actually prefer is a new entry. A few months ago, there were strong rumors that Silent Hill 2 was being remade and that Layers of Fear studio Bloober Team would be developing it. However, none of this has been officially confirmed, and a lot of fans are trying not to leap to conclusions. After all, there's been more than a few speculations in the past about the series making a return. Even Christophe Gans, who directed the first film adaptation, has said Konami is rebooting the franchise, but the studio has not made any announcements so far.

Some are even getting a little impatient and taking matters into their own hands. A fan is working on an Unreal Engine 5 remake of Silent Hill, with gameplay footage being shown off a couple of months ago. Given that the last official entries in the series were 2012's Downpour and the PS Vita exclusive Book of Memories, which came out the same year, gamers have been waiting a decade for a new installment to see the light of day.

As one of the most influential horror games of all time, the first Silent Hill set the bar for the genre, building off the success of the early Resident Evil games while also injecting its own iconic flavor of psychological terror. It's no wonder fans want a brand-new entry. But for now, Konami will hopefully be releasing the classic games to Steam soon.
